"Baby Anna this is you."
One of my favorite memories of being in the hospital was watching Simon show baby Anna the photo of her that he took to school to share with his class (great idea Grandma). Tucked inside his backpack it was his connection to her (and us) while he was at school and we were in the hospital.
On the day we came home we waited to leave the hospital until my Mom was able to bring him over after school. We wanted to leave as a whole family unit and include him in the specialness that is bringing a new baby home.
The transition from three to four has been remarkably smooth so far.
Simon comes home from school and the first thing he says is "Baby Anna I am home!"
He loves to call Anna and I "the girls." He will say, "do you girls want
to come see this toy?" or "are you girls going to take a bath?"
He also loves to give her "snuggles" where he touches her head with his hands or presses his lips to her head. It is a precious connection.
There is really nothing quite like this miracle that is new life and the bonds that are growing stronger everyday. We all feel really blessed.
And speaking of new life, Gabrielle McDougall Gitomer made her way into the world yesterday. We are overjoyed for my sister and Jeffrey and can't wait to meet the newest member of our family.

SWEET! The transition from three to four is such a tribute to the thoughtfulness of all of you in including Simon so much. He is so precious and he and Anna will have such a great relationship - thanks to all of the groundwork you are laying for them now. Thank you for sharing your life with us all.

I love how you capture all these beautiful and memorable moments. I love the "conscious" decisions that you and all your family is making...it is really special...and it has obviously been passed onto Simon...such a caring and sweet "little man".
Congrats to baby Gabrielle too...how exciting.

that is so sweet that you are having such a positive experience - those of use with more than one child know that it can easily go either way! :)
thank you for posting about your sister, i read her blog and was wondering how things turned out - how fun that there will be two little girls so close in age - that will make for some fun future tea parties and dress-up dates when you have family gatherings.

How brilliant, Ali, to come home from the hospital as a FAMILY! I wish I would have thought of that when my kids were tiny. Love you blog. You're great.

I smiled when I saw Anna's giraffe blanket. My daughter has a pink lamb made my the same company. She picked out a monkey for my son when he was born. They love their "bobos". I am happy I bought extras when I saw them falling in love with their blankies. At the end of the day, a new one comes out and the old one goes in the laundry. Hope Anna loves hers as much as my children love their blankies.

I ran across this little verse again when I was making a baby card
"Frail newborn wings
small voice that sings
new little beating heart
dread not thy birth
nor fear the earth
the infinite thou art
the sun doth shine
the earth doth spin
for welcome~enter in
this green and daisied sphere
rejoice and have no fear"

I am so happy for you guys! My sister in law had her 2.nd child (Sarah) and her son (Hector, 3) was soooo jealous. He even threw stuff towards her and pretended to kiss her and then wanting to hurt her. I think it helps that Simon is older.
He is such a great brother. I am so happy for you!

I have 3 children, and while all of them are close, my youngest two are especially so. My daughter has loved her baby brother since the moment she found out I was pregnant. They are now 12 and 16 (almost 13 and 17) and the bond is stronger than ever. They are each other's best friends and biggest fans. Because I am an only child, this bond not only humbles me, but I stand in awe as I watch the two of them. Thanks for sharing the sweetness of Anna & Simon with your blog readers.

Ahhh. Such a sweet story, and so nice that 'the girls' have this 'guy' (and the other one!) to take care of and love them.
