Wednesday Sponsor Giveaway : Get It Scrapped, Transparent Touches, & Blue Moon Scrapbooking
Get It Scrapped is giving away one spot in Pattie Knox's "More Mad Digital Skillz" online workshop.
Pattie Knox’s favorite part of digital scrapbooking is learning new techniques for creating realistic--as in “I can’t believe that’s not paper!”--layouts. In “More Mad Digital Skillz,” you’ll learn how to create torn edges on your photos and papers, how to insert photos into type, Pattie’s method for digital dry embossing, and much more about making your own brushes, working with custom shapes, and creating depth and interest with texture. Each lesson is accompanied by beautiful digital products from the talented artists at Designer Digitals—including Ali Edwards! Class starts May 25th at Get It Scrapped!

I read magazines for inspiration and I write a list of words or phrases from the magazine. Sometimes I circle the words and have my daughter write them in a journal for me. Often times she comes up with her own stories or phrases too.
My mom gave me her old little hand held recorder. While driving in the car I ask the kids what was the best thing they liked for that day...(on vacation). I need to start to use it a little more. thanks---janie

I journal on a piece of scrap paper first, so I get the words right. And I love to do hidden journaling - not only for the privacy of it, but for something "fun" to pull out and read later.

I write notes when I think of them. I also use my own handwriting mostly instead of computer journaling. I feel once we're gone our loved ones will love to see our own handwriting.

I'd say to journal just like you speak. Don't worry about being perfect--just personal. I do my pages for the people I love--not to be noticed or recognized. If there is a current expression I use a lot, I will use it in my journaling. Thanks for the chance to win!

I usually do the visual part of the layout and let my mind free associate while I am scrapping - it's amazing the poems, quotes, and memories that pop up and trigger the actual journaling.

While it is fresh in my mind I type it. That's the fastest for me...I type faster than I think. ;D Then I can put it on my blog or in my journals that I keep on my computer. If I want to put the text in my own handwriting I can just copy it from that or I can cut and paste it into PS and play with it there...make word art or just straight journal boxes.

I like to use my blog for a journaling reference. I can get the story down there with pictures and then later when I have time to scrapbook it, I have the information already written down.

I keep a notebook to write my daughter's milestones so I won't forget the cute and not so cute things she is saying right now.

I usually keep a notebook handy and jot down some thoughts - for recording later - when scrapping those particular pages.

Sometimes just writing stream of consciousness style onto the page captures the feelings best

I think it's important to not worry if it's "perfect" when you journal. You might forget something, and you might not have the perfect word, grammar, or flow, but you got the story down on paper, and that is the most important part.

Less is more! stating the facts, (the 5 W's) , and a fun anecdotal story when appropriate. Getting something down is the most important thing. I tend to write it all out on a scrap paper and then edit and make the story more concise as I actually put it on the scrap page.

I have a journal jar with journaling prompts and pull one out each day to write in my journal. If I am having a writing block, I look back into my journal to see if any of my entries would fit the page I'm working on.

One of the most basic: write about it as soon as it happens, both the details and the emotions. In the past, I was able to remember all those things for longer periods of time, but with a husband and three growing kids there is so much input to my brain each day, it is hard to remember everything.
Also, personally, I like to have all the details down(who, what, when, where), and if there is time, add the emotional part, but that's just me.

My blog! I usually write down the stuff I am processing - and those thoughts are invaluable for journaling. Ali - you are an inspiration. Thanks for all you do.
PS - today is my birthday if it helps me win at all. :-)

I actually have two, when on a trip bring along a small notebook and ask questions of everyone like what was your favorite thing we did today?
The other, the best journalers for the kids pages are the people involved--the kids! Let them tell you what they remember....

Even though I'm an English teacher, journaling is the hard part. Once I start writing, I don't know when to stop. but then there's the problem of writer's block--just getting started. Karen's journaling class has really helped me with the journaling. by the way, I would love the BlueMoon package!

I've started keeping a small journal in my purse and write about little everyday moments to later use in layouts.

My best tip is to not worry about your own handwriting, bad as it may be. I think I have horrible writing and avoid writing on my layouts often. I've worked at getting over that so I can just get on MY page what I want! Be free!

The sooner you do it, the better it is. Always seems like my documentation is soo much better when I do it real-time and not months later.
