Reconnecting with the joy of scrapbooking.

This past weekend I attended a local crop where I actually got to just sit there and scrapbook (and then raise a little money in the evening for one of my favorite local charities called The Heart Gallery of Lane County that is dedicated to making words + photos work for some very special kids).
Sitting there, cutting + pasting + documenting, I reconnected with some joy that has been dormant for awhile. Don't make it more complicated than it needs to be.

I love that I just took the contents of a kit with me and my basic supplies (trimmer, square punch, adhesive, scissors, tiny metal brads, etc). Simplify the process.
The night before I printed out the photos you see used in these layouts. I didn't have the layout design planned in advance but had some initial thoughts in my head for general photo sizes so I just went with it and knew I could make it work when I was actually putting it together. Go with the flow & embrace imperfection.

I
even enjoyed creating with other people around. I get so used to
being by myself while I work here that having the interaction with other
women at my table and surrounding tables was a welcome change. It was fun to see what they
were working on and share tools, ideas, laughter, photos and stories. Play.
Feeling very thankful for scrapbooking today.

good words to remember. thanks! I'm new to the kit club thing myself and i'm LOVING it!! LOL. just grab my box, my tool caddy and i'm on the go. In the back of my mind there's a little voice saying "what if you need something from your supply stash" but I beat it down and shove it back in the closet with my supplies! LOL

Really lovely stuff! What a great challenge to just take the photos and basic supplies + photos. Might have to try that some time. Constant inspiration girl, in art and in life. Thanks!

I like the idea of only bringing one kit and your pictures...I have come to avoid crops just because of the packing. Then I took some scrap supplies on vacation and realized that the process was easier and more fun when I only had the few supplies I could pack. Maybe I should brave a crop again soon to rediscover the joy myself.

Ali, thank you for always being an inspiration to us. You are one of the reasons I have become more productive in the last 6 months. I have created more in those 6 mos. than in the last 6 years. I thought long and hard one day about what was impeding me from scrapbooking as the result of one of your posts. I have since embraced imperfection and learned to simplify. I did not realize how much I MISSED being creative until I was doing it again. I am a far more happier and calmer person now. Thank you.

Love your pages, Ali! I just wanted to tell you that I too have begun to simplify my scrap supplies by planning ahead. I have a lot of stuff. A lot is even an understatement. I had become so overwhelmed with my cool supplies that I couldn't even comprehend scrapping a page. Just thinking about it made my head ache. I now grab a small stack of photos and sort them out into 5 groups. I don't even worry about when or where they were taken. I then go through my perfectly organized (NOT!) supplies, and choose papers that match, stickers, titles, embellishments, etc.. that would go with the paper and theme, and then put them all in 5 different plastic enclosed file folders (mine are from Creative Memories). Then I put them in a wire file basket, so whenever I feel like scrapbooking, I just take out a file, and work only with the stuff in the folder. I have a small basket that I keep staples like my Kokuyo adhesive, corner punch, square punch, scissors, and Sakura pens in. I'm now always ready for a crop, or a night of scrapping at home.

Just wanted to let you know your recent pages have been so beautiful! I have always really loved your work, but this post, and the recent layouts in your regular CK column, and the sewing article were especially colorful and beautiful! Maybe its that sweet baby girl! Your use of color lately just seems so fresh and vibrant. Like I said, I have always enjoyed your style, but I think you have grown some creatively just recently--really inspiring to see your talent evolve!

I love that last layout. I have a [icture si ilar to that one from when I was a baby (me and my other 2 cousins were born the same year after our older siblings were all born the same year). Definately made me think about scrapping those relationships.
Go with the flow & embrace imperfection.
Def. good advice and something I've been trying to keep in mind. Awesome and inspiring pages!

Three awesome layouts, Ali! I love them! The first one is darling and sweet. As is the photo of Simon and Anna sitting on the floor of what looks like one of their bedrooms together. I love the colors and everything actually about the third one, too! So cute!! You are one talented woman. Good stuff!
