Yesterday & Today Begins In One Week & A Giveaway
Tags:In just one week my new workshop begins at Big Picture Scrapbooking:Yesterday & Today.
It's hard to believe it is almost finally here.
And in case you didn't know already, you're invited to join me.
Here's what I want you to know if you are still considering embarking on this journey with me:
• With a focus on the stories from yesterday & the stories from today, this class is really an in-depth look at the way I scrapbook.
• Each week (on Thursdays) you will receive an email inviting you to the classroom where a video presentation will be waiting for you to access on your own time (you do not need to be online at a certain time - it's just one of the awesome things about Big Picture's classroom set-up). These video presentations are not just a 5-15 minute talk about the subject and the layout - so far they are averaging around an hour. During that hour my goal is to inspire you to take a look at the way in which you scrapbook and encourage you to focus on the things that matter most to you within the framework of the theme for that week.
• In addition to the video presentations there are weekly video tutorials showing my processes for concepts and techniques using Photoshop Elements.
• For those of you, like me, who like to actually read the weekly content there will be a color PDF download detailing the concepts and information covered in the video presentation (as well as a how-to for the weekly project).
• Each week there will be a digital element download and a digital layered template (all new). The digital elements will be used as printables (hybrid elements) on the weekly layout and the layered template will match the paper layout I create for each week.
• Even if you will be away for a time during the class you will still have access to the materials.
• The class will have it's own message board & gallery for sharing and communicating with one another (including me).
• This workshop is a chance for you to:
investigate your past through words + photos
do something meaningful with older photos if you have them (or to tell those stories that have meaning even if you don't possess the photos)
tell your own personal stories of success + challenge + growth
work on embracing imperfection & going with the flow
celebrate your everyday life + make sure you are capturing stories that are meaningful to you today
connect with other people who care deeply about collecting + celebrating the stories of their lives
• The cost for this 13 week class is $99.
I am really, really excited for this workshop to get underway.
I hope to see you there.
Want to know more? Additional details, an audio introduction, and registration can be found here. Registration will close on October 7.
And now, the giveaway.

I guess I'm not sure of the direction I would go but I want to do something about my mother and her dying from cancer - maybe something on her life, our relationship, or how her death affected me and my dad. It's seems so overwhelming to attempt but I don't want her story to be forgotten. I want my kids to know what a special person she was and my relationship with her since they didn't get a chance to know her.

What in incredible opportunity! I would love to explore the relationship over the years with my grandmother. She has Alzheimer's and we are slowly losing her a little bit at a time. I want to put my memories down before they disappear, too :-(

I would love to win a spot in your class. I think I would try to capture the time in my life right now as I am still figuring out the transition to full-time stay-at-home mom.

I just received a few hundred photos from my day of his childhood and even my grandparents when they were younger. I would love to work on that. And maybe some of my own childhood photos & my husband's photos.

hum, a story i would like to document. I have been meaning to create a childhood album for myself that highlights most of my fond memories from childhood, just haven't gotten started yet - mainly because i don't have any of the photos - but if i was motivated enough i'm sure i could go to my mom's and find the pictures and start this project.
i would love to win!

I would like to document this story: when I was younger, I loved to bake with my Nana. She lived with us and helped my parents raise us (my dad a sailor out to see often and my mom a working mom who put in 40+ hours to help pay the bills). It would always seem that a the last minute, one of my four sisters or I would remember that we needed something for the school bake sale (remember when we did bakesales and not Innisbrook for fundraising?) and of course it was always 9 or so before we remembered this. I would stay up and help my Nana bake whatever it was - cookies, brownies, a cake. I loved being up late and alone with her. In a house full of seven women, time with my Nana alone was not a frequent event. Sometimes my Mom would help out too, which was a bonus. We would talk and sing to the radio. Sometimes she and my mom would even teach me how to waltz, jitterbug or foxtrot. One of my favorite photos is of me and my Nana dancing in the kitchen with our aprons on and the mixing bowl and measuring spoons in the background! Nana taught me how to measure...rounded vs. level, how to mix, turn the bowl the opposite direction as the mixer and be sure to use a spoon to scrape the sides, what the purposes of baking soda vs. baking powder were and why you didn't want to mix them up. My favorite recipe of all time was for Nana's Texas Sheetcake Brownies. Not only were they DIVINE tasting, but my favorite thing to do - and Nana always let me do this - was mix the sour cream into the batter. It was the last thing you added and I loved to watch the creamy white blend into the chocolate batter and make all sorts of browns and tans and every color in between until it swirled together and became all one color. Loved that. Writing this all down, I can hear my Nana's voice and feel her hands guiding mine on the mixer, her palms worn smooth by years of hard work. I can smell her...I can't pinpoint it, just that "Nana" smell...the smell of baking and comfort and HOME! Wow! I have yet to do any pages from my childhood and what started out as a brief entry for this contest has turned into journaling that brought tears to my eyes as I typed. I am saving this away and doing a page about this the very next time I scrapbook. Thanks Ali!
