Looking For Non-Toy Stocking Ideas
Running errands and catching up on some stuff around here today and thinking about stocking stuffers. I would love to hear if you have any traditions/favorites that are not toys to go in a child's or an adult's stocking. Anything beyond books, movies, candy, oranges, etc?
Hope to have Days 7 & 8 of my December Daily up tomorrow.

A small craft project. Like the kind you find in the dollar bin at craft stores. I found a wooden ornament and marker set at Jo-Anns for my girls. Fits perfect in the stocking too.

Oh Ali, another cool thing would be to make a cd of all your sons favorite songs. My son adores Star Wars so we made a cd with the Star Wars themes from the movies and also included the Wierd Al songs Yoda and Star Wars: The Saga Begins. We put a few other songs on there that he likes. Now the cd stays in the car and he loves listening to it.

I have 2 boys - 3 years old and 10 months old. For the older one, I've got some art supplies, a card game, socks, toothbrush & toothpaste, underwear, a small recorder/flute; for the little one, I've got a sippy cup, soothers, toothbrush, tattoo bandages. They're still young enough not to care that they're getting mostly practical things that we would get them regardless!

A practical idea that almost everyone can use is a USB stick that they can hang on their key chain. Nowadays you can get them for $20.
For my college age son I always put together a little kit full of things that make life so much easier if you have them but he is too cheap to buy for himself because they are "optional" items... Chapstick, Bandaids and antiseptic cream, Tylenol, Q-tips, eye drops, nail clippers, scotch tape to name a few.
My high school daughter loves perfume and will haul around a bottle of it in her purse, so I try to find the travel sizes for her stocking. I also give her blank cards and a set of alphabet stamps from the craft store so she can make her own cards for whatever is coming up. This saves me a trip to the store everytime she has to go to a birthday party and her friends love a hand-stamped card.

I try to do practical things...for my husband--the pen brand he loves to use, notepads, his favorite magazine rolled up and wrapped, small bags of flavored coffee or hot sauce he loves

I myself like to put arts and crafts things in my childrens stockings. You can pick them up at Michael and ACmoore stores for pretty cheap. This gives them something to do later on after they are all played out with the new toys.

Ali,
Some of our stocking traditions are to put a one silver dollar for each year of the child in a little bag inside their stocking. If Anna is one, she gets one silver dollar. Then next year she gets two and so on. Our grandkids love to get the dollars and they actually save them. Some people may object to this but we do the scratch lottery tickets as well. Again the kiddos enjoy seeing if they win anyting. You may already do this but we give an annual ornament in the sock as well...like a White House Ornament. Good Luck :)

We always put toothbrushes from Santa, then new ones again from the Easter Bunny in the baskets. We include playing cards, lottery tickets, sugar free gum, and sometimes little novelty magic tricks, and toys like slinkys and jacks.
