One Little Word 2010
Tags:I am a fan of welcoming the new year with open arms. I love fresh starts, new opportunities, clean slates, possibilities.
Back in January 2007, as a way to celebrate these beginnings, I started a public tradition of choosing a single word to focus on over the course of the year.
Many of you are familiar with this tradition and have been joining me in selecting a new word each year. If this is your first time reading about the idea of one little word I recommend taking a few minutes to read my original post here.
Here's a look at my words from the past three years with links to the original posts.
2007 :Peace [ read my post for 2007 ]
2008 :Vitality [ read my post for 2008 ]
2009 :Nurture [ read my post for 2009 ]
Essentially the idea is to choose a word (or let it choose you) that has the potential to make an impact on your life.
Maybe you want to invite something or maybe you are hoping to subtract something. Maybe your word will be practical or hopeful or creative or fanciful. Maybe you need a big word, something in-your-face that will challenge you everyday. Maybe you need something smaller and quieter that will whisper gentle tidings as you make your way throughout the year.
Whatever word you end up with, make sure it is your word (not your sister's, mom's, partner's, child's, etc). You can share it publicly or keep it close to your heart.
My word for 2010 is STORY.
I'm planning to do a post with more details on my thoughts about this word on Wednesday (look for the finishing pages of my December Daily tomorrow). I am hoping to use my word as a springboard for a variety of different projects and inspirations, in my life and my scrapbooking, over the next 365 days.
Have you chosen your word yet?

This is my third year choosing a word, and I have to say it really helps! This years word is CREATE as in "She CREATEd a life she loved". My kids are all grown up in so many ways 18 and 14 and I have been slightly out of sorts all this past year. I believe it is time to reCREATE my life and my families to fit the changes into. Here's to 2010!

my word came to me this morning while I was undecorating my tree. Balance. I blogged about it, and really feel a connection to my word this year.

My word is INTENTIONAL. I want to be intentional in everything I do in 2010. I'm hoping to get a blog post up soon about my word, a verse I can focus on for the entire year, and some of my goals that will hopefully result.

This year my word is DILIGENCE. I did not read your post in previous years, but through prayer I have been led to words or themes of the year.
In 2007 my word was "love". That was a pursuit that took a couple of years, and 2009 was "excellence", which helped me set standards that brought me successfully through a great deal of difficult tasks. While striving for excellence in Christ, my old was stripped away bit by bit, and it will take DILIGENCE to make the new precepts a lifestyle.

Wow, I love this concept. Several words flashed through my mind, but I think I'm going to go with Expand. It will remind me to expand my horizons and possibilities and not be limited by the past. Thanks for sharing this idea. Good luck to everybody and have a fantastic 2010.

I finally decided after much thought that my word for the year is going to be "purpose". I have gone back and forth a lot, but think this one has the most meaning for me in a year where I'm going to be 40!

I think my word is going to be VITALITY. I wanted a word related to health, but encompassing much more. I'm just too young to feel so old and have decided to take action! Thank you for your inspiration in so many ways!

Hi Jamie...good luck to you with your "choices" in 2010 as well!! I made a little frame this morning with the quote "Happiness is a Choice" in it and have it sitting on my computer/scrapbooking desk so that I'll see it everyday. I think that's a good start for the first day of '10! ") Happy New Year.

I have finally chosen my word for the new year - Spirit, as "an attitude of enthusiasm." I need more spirit in my life and less of the opposite - depression and laziness. Thank you for your inspiration, Ali!

The word that I have in my head right now is FULFILL... defined as to satisfy, carry out, bring to completion...to emotionally or artistically satisfy; to develop one's gifts to the fullest. In many areas of my life in the present and near future, this word applies. I am looking forward to what the year is going to bring!
