One Little Word 2010
Tags:I am a fan of welcoming the new year with open arms. I love fresh starts, new opportunities, clean slates, possibilities.
Back in January 2007, as a way to celebrate these beginnings, I started a public tradition of choosing a single word to focus on over the course of the year.
Many of you are familiar with this tradition and have been joining me in selecting a new word each year. If this is your first time reading about the idea of one little word I recommend taking a few minutes to read my original post here.
Here's a look at my words from the past three years with links to the original posts.
2007 :Peace [ read my post for 2007 ]
2008 :Vitality [ read my post for 2008 ]
2009 :Nurture [ read my post for 2009 ]
Essentially the idea is to choose a word (or let it choose you) that has the potential to make an impact on your life.
Maybe you want to invite something or maybe you are hoping to subtract something. Maybe your word will be practical or hopeful or creative or fanciful. Maybe you need a big word, something in-your-face that will challenge you everyday. Maybe you need something smaller and quieter that will whisper gentle tidings as you make your way throughout the year.
Whatever word you end up with, make sure it is your word (not your sister's, mom's, partner's, child's, etc). You can share it publicly or keep it close to your heart.
My word for 2010 is STORY.
I'm planning to do a post with more details on my thoughts about this word on Wednesday (look for the finishing pages of my December Daily tomorrow). I am hoping to use my word as a springboard for a variety of different projects and inspirations, in my life and my scrapbooking, over the next 365 days.
Have you chosen your word yet?

Hi Lisa - as I read through your comments the thought that came to me was to close your eyes, take a really deep breath, and embrace the first word that comes into your mind. Take that one and run with it...

This will be my first year participating but as soon as I read about it my word popped into my head. Grow. Not in body - eek, no hopefully that will be shrinking by at least 2 dress sizes.
I need to grow within myself. Become a stronger person, learn more, learn patience, listen more, try to gain some self esteem, self pride, sense of worth in myself and my home... even in stuff I make. Just grow within myself. Not putting it across well but I know what I mean :)

I have read about "Ali's word" in a few places recently and I am inspired by the number of people you have touched with this concept.
For me, it seems my word has found me this year. As I have read everybody's comments, the word that keeps bouncing around in my head is CREATE. I know it is fairly common and probably not that deep but I think that in reality, I have spent a lot more time reading about scrapbooking than I have actually spent DOING IT.
So this year, I am creating. 9 layouts to date!

Everyone has such wonderful and inspiring words. This is my first year, and I am choosing ILLUMINATE - brightened with light. I want to work on inviting God's light and love into me, flow into my projects, and brighten my interactions with others.
My secondary words are CONNECT and COMPLETE, to remind me to connect more consistently with friends and family in positive ways, and to focus on specific projects and pages to finish them.

Finally, I have decided on my 'word'... silence. I was reading one of my favorite blogs a while back and there was a quote posted... "Learn to get in touch with the silence within yourself and know that everything in this life has a purpose." Loved the quote and I thought right then and there that silence would be my 2010 word. But, I kept saying, there's probably a better word for me out there, just got to find it. Today, a friend's status on facebook was: "It is when we silence the chattering of our mind that we can truly hear what is in our heart and find the still, clear purity that lies within the soul. Spiritual love carries us into the silence of our original state of being. This silence contains the power to create harmony in all relationships and the sweetness to sustain them." Right away, I knew that I had not found the word 'silence', but that it had found me. ~silence~

This is my first year using the OneWord~ I usually have quotes stuck all over the place to build me up and keep me positive, but sometimes you get lost in the whole thing. I love this one word concept. Thanks for bringing this to us. I have chosen the word........SELF-CONFIDENCE. I need to concentrate in building the confidence in myself, confidence in my powers and confidence in my abilities in all aspects of my life and the people that surround me.
BTW: I loved reading each and everyone's one word. Thanks for the inspiration.

My word is memories. After my father was killed this summer at the age of 87, my mom moved in with me. Everyday we have an adventure. We are both stumbling through grief. We both have health issues. Someday she is helping me but mostly I am helping her. I fix her healthy meals, I dispense her meds, I have her friends over to visit, I do her laundry, I snuggle with her for a nap. I bathe her, I tuck her in. We are making new memories from all the old ones. I am so lucky.
