PEEK AT THE PROCESS | I knew three things for sure when I started the creative process for the layout featured above:
1. I wanted to use the photo of Simon reading in the tree and I wanted it to be bigger than 4x6.
2. I wanted to use the July 2010 stamp set.
3. I wanted to use elements from the Studio Calico September 2010 kit.
I started by cutting out the strip of numbers from the Jenni Bowlin pattern paper. At this point in the process I wasn't too sure what the end layout design was going to look like but I had a general idea to use that number strip as an anchor along the bottom of the main content.
After stamping the Capture Life rectangle above on the cream cardstock I decided to repeat that basic shape using pattern papers (sometimes I just stamp and go for it). I love the technique of repetition.
To give the design a bit of variety I mixed up the height of the rectangles.
Each of the pattern paper rectangles was adhered to the cream cardstock. I added a bit of stitching around two of them. These rectangles would make great homes for additional embellishments if you were creating a page similar to this and wanted to add more.
As you might notice I ended up cutting out this whole area with the cream cardstock background and adhering it to white cardstock.
My initial plan was to have the chipboard title just along the top. I ended up adding "& Read A Book" towards the end of the process. Because that all happened at the end I trimmed some white cardstock off the top to make the margins between the edge of the chipboard letters and the cardstock even.
To complete the page I adhered it to the dark navy lined pattern paper and added zig zag stitching and a little bit of journaling.

I'd like to see some backgrounds/patterns in a set - that could be used with different coloured inks to decorate cardstock or plainer patterned paper. Maybe some tiny dots or other shapes in a pattern...

I would like to have small decorative labels -sort of like the Hello Life Set-for adding handwritten dates to a layout. I already have the August set and love it! Thanks, Ali.

What a fantastic giveaway. I would love to see a set aimed at boys growing up, a set that doesn't associate every boy in the world with dirt and noise, lol.

Ali you continue to amaze and inspire me! My kids are getting older and I am constantly wishing for young adult and teen themes. You can't identify with us moms of older kids yet but you will soon enough! It just reinforces how important it is to recognize and record the everyday. I would like to see a stamp set of very short sentences in small type size that could apply to a lot of situations. I have started writing out my own and placing them along the sides of photos or stacking a few as an embellishment. It's a neat look. For example: Friends are one of life's most valuable possessions, LIFE IS FUNNY, or It doesn't get any better than this!

I love all of your stamps, but I think I'd love to see more generic sentiment stamps--like a whole bunch of different sentiments in a package. Thanks for sharing!

You always have such great holiday themed stuff at Designed Digitals... some as stamps would be awesome. Or, even just the plain ABC's and 123's in your writing!

I'd love to see a travel-related set and maybe something more generic like life's journeys/sojourns and goal-setting.
