December Daily 2010 | Interior Page Steps + Video Walk-Through Of Album
Tags:When looking back through my photos of my December Daily foundation there were a couple where I'd taken some how-to shots. Many of the pages were as simple as stitching or adhering an element but a couple involved more than one step. Here's a look at a couple of those how-to's.
For Day 2 and Day 22 I sprayed Studio Calico Mister Huey Apple Jack Color Mist onto shipping tags. Before spraying I adhered large number stickers from Making Memories and then removed them after spraying.
Here's a look at Day 22 in the album:
Day 8, Day 13 and Day 21 use my AE Christmas Boxes from Designer Digitals. This package from Designer Digitals includes individual PNG files + a print-ready PDF.
The print-ready PDF actually includes all 9 boxes - I just happened to print this out before putting together the PDF page.
I cut out each little box, adhered a date, and added a bit of paint around the edges (Claudine Hellmuth Studio Paint Dash of Red: Two Peas | Scrapbook.com). Here's a look at where these boxes appear (for full supply lists check this post):
For Day 9 and Day 12 I painted chipboard stars and frames using Claudine Hellmuth's Studio Paint Dash of Red: Two Peas | Scrapbook.com.
One last thing for this week: a video walk-through of the album. I've been wanting to integrate more video into my site and felt like this project was a great chance to begin that process. Enjoy!

Fantastic Video Ali. Bit tricky at 8mins 28sec I heard "Mama" in the background and my little darling is asleep and I thought she had woken up! When I went to check her she was still sound asleep so had to go back and listen again and I realised it was Anna! Priceless.
Your December Daily is beautiful again this year and I have finally got myself organised to join in. My book is nearly done and ready to be completed come December. I am so excited. Christmas in Australia is very different to yours and I can't wait to see the contrast between the two. It is hot and sticky here in Australia so no snowflakes in my album just lots of images of swimming and sitting in the shade of Mango trees!
Thanks again for sharing!

ps - so that star on Day 16 is attached only by brads going thru the numbers or did you spray adhesive it as well?
LOVED THE VIDEO!!!!!!!!!!! It really helps me to see it in the video vs. pics although I love those too or going back and looking. Last year, I printed all your photos from all your DD's and when I made mine, I constantly looked at the pics of yours. :)

No spray adhesive on that one - just brads.

Sorry! One more thing....my husband just bought an HP printer and I want to try it with that paper you use. I don't want to buy 8.5x11 and spend $50. Does this look like the same thing you use, only in 4x6? http://www.amazon.com/Ilford-Galerie-Smooth-Sheets-1141216/dp/B000EH6EQ8/ref=pd_sbs_op_5
Thanks!

Ali, you are so awesome. I will not be working DD until Nov as I'm working in October on wrapping up other projects and squeezing a few in before GASP! Holiday season! :) Thanks for taking the time to video what you've done. Such a cool thing to keep growing and incorporating new things (to your site like the videos). This stuff continues to inspire people everywhere and quiet naysayers (not to say I might have read a few threads elsewhere recently). Kudos for sharing yourself and your projects w/ others and encouraging others to do the same. Heidi

Thank you for all the inspiration and detailed descriptions on your December Daily process! I have never tried traditional scrapbooking, but love taking photos and have at a few occasions tried digital scrapbooking. I would love to make a try on my own DD project. I am looking forward to your coming post on ideas about digital DD.
One thing I loved about your DD album was the transparencies. Regardless of going for the digital or "traditional" way, I would love to have the transparent pages in between. But searching for the lovely christmas related products you used, they seem all sold out. I have spent several hours trying to find similar christmas transparencies, but with no luck. (Ofcourse, I would also like to find a webshop closer to Sweden, in order to reduce shippig cost, but I really had trouble finding any christas related transparencies similar to the ones you used.)
So, finally to my question. If I would not be able to find any such products, do you think it is possible to print out by myself using overhead transparencies and similar digital overlays (if such are to be found)? I have never printed on OH transparencies, so I don't know if the result would be good. Of course, it would not be possible to create transparencies with a texture, but at least for the "flat" ones (like the one with all the stars, or the TC numbers). I would be greatful for any ideas or tips from you!
Greetings from Sweden, and hope my English is understandable.
Thanks!

Hi Mrs. b - thanks for all the feedback. You can definitely print on transparencies all on your own. Check out this post where I do just that to create some 4x6 transparent overlays: http://aliedwards.com/2008/07/hybriddigital-scrapbooking-6-things-to-do-with-title-journal-photo-overlays.html.
Last year my daughter used plastic place mats and cut them to size. They are usually cheap and you can find a variety in the seasonal section at most stores.
Thank you all for your responses! Since this will (well, at least I still hope it will) be my first DD, and also since I have not been scrapbooking before, my plan was to try to make it very simple and to use very similar approach/products as in Alis project. I am also very much loving the style Ali uses (in general), so the products used were really such that I would love to have them in my own project.
I talked a bit to my husband and he mentioned that it could be problems printing on transparencies on an ink jet printer. I tried to search for info about this, and found that there perhaps exist transparencies that are especially made for printing on ink jet printers.
I will need to think about it, if this turns out too much work with all then it might just be better to use patterned papers instead of transparencies. The Teresa Collins "Noel" pattern papers I actually could find in a webshop in Sweden (too bad they didn't sell the transparency ones).
Anyway, I appreciate your feedback and your thoughts - thank you very much!
Hi Mrs b. I live in Denmark and I also had trouble tracking down transparencies in general on Danish sites. I found a couple of the same transparencies that Ali used on a Dutch site that ships all over Europe (www.scrapware.nl). They also have a variety of other transparencies and I just ordered a couple of different ones in the same colour scheme as Ali used (red, green, black and white). I will also buy some clear transparencies (which I found at Panduro Hobby - www.panduro.se) and print patterns myself using stamps or shapes and different coloured paint. You can also buy some different transparencies from Panduro Hobby (online, at least!). I hope this is helpful, and good luck with your first DD!
I think maybe printing on office supply transparencies, while they might not be as good as Hambly ones, would still be cool, and you could personalize the designs on them, if you're not into the same type they sell (the more traditional Christmas stuff vs. the "cutesy" Christmas stuff, I can see some doodles or stamps that are fun and cartoony rather than flocked stuff etc. ). One thing I did in the past after seeing Ali's stuff and being inspired was to take a piece of frosty clear plastic stuff that was part of a scrapbook storage kit, like a divider, and cut it up to put in a mini album. Ali's sample had dots, so I just used a white paint pen and drew dots on there - funky but very cool! To me making do is part of the fun ;-)
Mrs. b: I have printed on OH transparencies with my Epson inkjet and had no problems. It does take a long while to dry, though. Check your printer's settings, though. Don't use the normal paper settings if you have something else.

Your pictures and typed explanations are always wonderful but I have to say that watching your video and hearing the audio was even better. Thank you for making that! I hope you continue to make more. :) Have an awesome weekend!

Ali, I teach college courses online and every time I see one of your videos I am reminded how much more personal the instruction seems. You are inspiring me! I also liked seeing you hold the pages and seeing them from an angle allowed me a much better idea of how they looked in 3D. I found myself wishing I could see you turning the pages of your older albums, to see how they look/feel, so if you are inspired to make more videos, I would recommend you go back and turn the pages of those as well!

Thanks Steff - I totally agree and hope to do more.

Thanks for the video! It was great to see the details of the book more up close. Still trying to decide what my structure will be this time, but really loving those transparencies! Have a great weekend!

Thank you for the video! I am so excited to start my DD this year. I don't even have last years completed yet, so I'll have to overlap the two processes! I love the transparencies and the fact that all the pages are the same size. It really fits my style. I am, however, having a hard time finding the transparencies you used. They seem to be either off the market or all sold out. I think I'll have to be brave and venture out into a new color scheme. Thanks again!

I'm in the process of gathering supplies for my first ever December Daily album and I have to admit I was feeling a little overwhelmed. Now I'm excited again! Why do I do that?? It's supposed to be fun and I'm stressing about overlays! Thanks for the video!

Ali, thanks for the video. It was cool to see the pages and how the embellishments were attached. Did you use the Bazzill Cream Puff to print your Christmas boxes too?

Oh the sprayed 22 is just so fun and simple! I think it is my favorite - or one of my favorites because your pages are all so festive. Last week, I ordered the tattered angels glimmer mist in santa red, so I think I might just have to try out this technique! thank u. Have a good weekend!

Ali, I managed to navigate your new site when you initially switched from the blog. Pressing different options and links here and there I discovered all the goodies you had to offer and share. Thank you for the video it helped with the areas I missed and explained some categories further. : )
