December Daily 2010 | Day Six
Tags:Welcome to Day Six.
One of the things I worked on yesterday was making a set of Love, Santa tags for Two Peas 20 Days of Holiday Sharing. I'll post more details on that project in a new post later today. Rather than just throw away the paper I was working on - the one that has all the over-spray and paint on it - I decided to put that to good use in my album.
Day Six begins with an enlarged photo that I took of myself using the timer on my camera.
In Photoshop I added "celebrate the season," which comes in my Holiday Outline Word Art package from Designer Digitals. I printed here at home using a HP Photosmart B8550. (If you are ever looking for the equipment I use you can find that list in the FAQ. I also list general supplies I recommend here.)
One of the things I tried was embossing onto a photo. I don't think I've done that before.
For the Two Peas tags I'd already created this little set up with a punched heart (used a blue heart punch from Marvy). I laid that down onto my photo and applied Versamark clear embossing ink.
After applying the Versamark I poured some Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel onto the heart (the UTEE only sticks to the area where I applied the Versamark).
Using a heat gun I melted the embossing ink. It definitely did not go down as smooth as it does on other surfaces. I decided to just stop there and have a "marble-embossed" look this time rather than risk melting the photo.
I let that sit for a minute and then rubbed some Stickles in Christmas Red over the top.
After that was dry I stitched around the edge of the page with my sewing machine.
For page two I played with more leftovers on my table - beginning with this:
This is actually the inside of the Trader Joe's bag from yesterday. Seemed like a great surface for getting messy.
I cut it down to 5.5 x 6.25 to fit into the space on page two.
I wrote out some journaling (including using a white Sharpie Poster Paint Pen), drew a border with a black pen, stitched around the outline of the tag, and heat embossed a heart with UTEE.
I added another little bit along the bottom there and placed a white "play" tag along the bottom before stitching.
You could do this same sort of thing with kids artwork, something from a magazine, newspaper, wrapping paper, etc. Lots of possibilities.

This was a wonderful day. I so enjoyed seeing you work and your integration of it into the book. This is the everyday that I think we all will treasure having captured later on. I have zero pictures of me working (lawyer so less pretty on my desk) but think maybe a few would be good to have, particularly as I telecommute.

Hi Ali-I was wondering if you can tell me what the green numbers sheet is?

Hi Amanda - it's an old one from KI Memories. I happened to have it in my stash. I think I already checked their site for a link but it's not for sale anymore.
Thanks:(
Amanda, you might check your local Joann's if you have one. The one near me has a lot of older stuff, including KI Memories lace cardstock. Hope this helps!

I love that you used the background from your "play day". Such a creative idea.
Every year before DD starts I search and search for a Sharpie water-based paint pen like you have used so many times before, but to no avail. The ones they carry in Australia are oil-based. I think this might require an online order from the US!

This page is so inspiring to me for many reasons: (1) It has you in it, which I struggle to do (get myself in the album, (2) It is about an ordinary work day, of which I have many planned this week, (3) it is loose and creative, a beauty from mess.
I absolutely love it and hope to find my way to something so authentic, soon.

Nice to see a picture of you in your book! I decided to try something a little different and printed some of my pictures (using your templates) directly on the cream puff cardstock. I liked the almost "old" look it gave the pictures. I only did it with pictures of objects rather than people, my tree picture gave the lights a lovely soft look.

Hi Ali, it's really inspiring to read your posts. This post made me think of what my husband said a while ago: My husband said on layouts for our little one I would write in the first person and only tell of what I'm thinking. So I try to add his memories to the layouts. How do you include Chris' daily experiences or what he thinks or what he does in the December Daily? How do you do that with Chris' memories?
