December Daily 2010 | Day Ten
Tags:Welcome to Day Ten!
Today I'm going very simple with just a couple photos printed here at home and a small piece of art from one of Anna's paintings.
Page one:
A 6x8 photo of ornaments that Anna made drying on newspaper.
Page two:
A photo of one of the ornaments in the tree with a photo of Anna from today layered on top. I used the same opacity technique under the journaling and the photo of Anna as I did a couple days ago (draw a new white box and adjust the opacity of the layer down to around 20% or so - the opacity slider is at the top of the Layers pallette).
Here's a close up of the bottom:
The paper along the bottom was trimmed from one of Anna's recent paintings.

Love this! The picture with the ornaments drying is really beautiful. I also love the way you put together the two pictures, and the opacity technique - makes me want to try it out immediately! Thanks for the inspiration!

Wonderful! Reminded me of my own little artist who is almost 30 now! She turned out to be an awesome seamstress and designer. oh, if they could only stay little awhile longer!

her art is adorable. I doubt if anything makes me so giddy as small children's art.

I really love how you used a piece of Anna's paintings at the bottom. It looks like stained glass. What finger paints do you use with the kids? Either mine aren't as thick as yours, or my son is a lousy finger painter LOL

Love your album so far a lot! Since I ready your "Simon's brave Dr. visit" I take much more time for my journaling and go deeper than "I loved it" or "it was awesome". I try to analyze my feelings and situations that happening more, but also simply document in a more intense manner. Thank you so much for the inspiration.
Wish you a great weekend.

Hi Ali, my first year doing a DD and loving it, along with your inspirational daily posts. QUESTION: I really think I need to make the jump to "light speed" and start with digital scrapbooking. Can you suggest a package, assuming there are many on the market, that you use to accomplish your techniques - like the one from today's post. Much appreciated.

Daniele, if by package you mean software, you can try Photoshop Elements free for 30 days. I bought Jessica Sprague's Getting Started with PSE and it really really helped me. Ali has some wonderful tutorials/videos on her page which also guided me into getting some good habits.
Just wanted to echo what Maureen said about Jessica's class. I also have a series called Getting Started With Digital Scrapbooking that you can check out here: http://aliedwards.com/2010/01/getting-started-digital-scrapbooking.html
Thanks to you both. I'm hooked!

I love the art projects from Anna! I wish my little girl would try the finger paint...she seems to not like to get dirty. LOL. She does like to color with crayons and markers though.
I'm behind on my December Daily due to a few issues, but I hope to post some stuff this weekend. :) Happy December~!

A Mater artist in the works - great idea! I'm planning to do a snowflake making day with my 2 1/2 year old. And then put the decorations around the house and maybe even in her room! What a great way to make memories - finger painted ornaments. So inspiring!

I love this layout and the ornaments.
I have a question for you and your readers. My sister in law passed away this week after a long illness with cancer. I would like to include a recognition of this in our DD but just not sure how to without making it really stand out but still be respectful of her passing. Some thoughts I have had are including a photo of an angel ornament and writing about her and how much we miss her. I would love to hear any suggestions people may have.

Sorry to hear of your loss Donna, but I think this is a part of your life, and do think you can include it without having it stand out. Using a page of your thoughts/Journaling and a simple photo of some part of the day will allow you to have your book and your tribute to her. Maybe make the paper/elements a bit simpler - white and gold? Stars on blue? or if she was a rowdy, fun loving person, then make the page reflecting "her" personality. hth.
Hi Donna, I'm so sorry to read about your loss. I think the idea of a photo of something that reminds you of her and then some written thoughts about those feelings would be a very respectful way to include this part of your life in your album.
I think this is a great idea This is life we are talking about. If it is sad, so what. This is for you, and later you should remember this time. Blessings to you.
You could always tuck your content into an envelope. That way it's included in your album but not "out there" on display. Sorry for your loss.
Thank you everyone.
