Around The Room | Living With Your Photos + Color Inc Giveaway
I'm a huge fan of living with your photos. Out of albums, off your computer and onto your walls.
Over the years I've amassed quite a collection of family images - many of the recent ones being mounted rather than framed as you'll see below (and above). When I first starting hanging up photos I wanted them to be all black frames with white mats. Now I'm really enjoying the variety of both the framed and simply mounted images.
Around our house I've got quite a few gatherings happening on the walls. Some are consistent collections (meaning all mounted or all framed) and others are a mixture of the two.
The first ones I want to talk about line the hall from our entry into the kitchen.
The images are 12x12 photos are "standout mounted" from Color Inc. (Color Inc is a sponsor of my blog and has been generous with samples for me in the past and as you'll see below. This set I purchased on my own. They are excellent quality and have wonderful customer service.) When we moved into this house I ordered eight or nine of these with the intent that they would be grouped together and I love them.
They are mounted onto the wall using Miller Studio Magic Mounts removable mounting tabs. I tried a couple of other brands and these have worked the best.
You might have seen this image a couple weeks ago. This is in our dining area, between the kitchen and living room. This wall has a combination of framed and mounted images. The one of Simon and Anna in the blue shirts is from Persnickety Prints.
Upstairs I've got a few other collections starting. In the room you enter before coming into my office I've got a large standout mount from Color Inc (photo taken by Tracey Clark). That one is 3o inches x 20 inches.
In my office I've included two Ikea frames with 12x12 photos of me and Chris as kids. I enlarged these 1970's photos on my scanner and they were printed at Scrapbookpictures.com. These hung in Anna's room in our last house.
A little collage in Simon's room that includes photos, Star Wars stamps, and a signed photo of Yoda from Frank Oz.
And this one was in Anna's room in our last house. I didn't recreate it here yet, but it was a favorite in the old place.
In our bedroom I'm just beginning to build a photo wall.
The newest addition is a Framed Gallery Wrap Canvas from ColorInc. As one of my sponsors they kindly sent me this new product to review and want me to give one away as well (with your own photo of course).
Here's what they have to say about this new product:
Love the sleek modern style of a Gallery Wrapped Canvas? Now you can add a frame! Our Gallery Wrapped Canvas Frames will give you that same modern and edgy look you've wanted but with a touch of traditional style to give you a unique shadow box feel to add to any home, work, or studio wall space!
These ready to hang Gallery Wrapped Canvases come with a 2 1/8'' deep smooth black laminate frame. With a 1/2'' floating space between your canvas and frame, each of our hand wrapped canvas prints will be permanently attached with the finest attention to detail. Each piece will arrive properly finished with a wire hanger, bumpers and Tyvek® backing. A true first class upgrade to your studio or home!
These Framed Gallery Wrapped Canvases are really, really nice. I didn't realize when I was ordering it that there's a space between the frame and the wrapped canvas but when I opened the package here at home I was really pleasantly surprised. I'd definitely consider ordering another one.

How do I live with our photos? I have a handful of my own photos stuck onto a bulletin board near my computer. I have monthly mugshots of my son's first year of life in a frame. I have some professional photos of our family members (WE ARE FAMILY...) created into a square grid layout hanging in the nursery. Our house boasts a lot of slanted ceilings and numerous doors so, we don't have an over-abundance of wall space available. I would LOVE to live with some of OUR photos on the wall(s).

I recently added a gallery of ikea frames to our living room and have several on display on shelves around the house. I would absolutely LOVE to incorporate a canvas to that. Thanks for the chance to win!

I have photos sprinkled throughout our home and lots of canvas portraits in my office - to remind me why I work so hard! Using photos as art is a blessing that provides a supportive environment in which to create. Thanks for the opportunity!

I have most of the pictures in our home in black frames and they are either hanging on the walls or on top of furniture pieces. I love having a mixture of current pictures and pictures from when the kids were small. Thanks for the opportunity to win such a lovely framed photo.

We are in the process of redoing most of our first floor: moving walls and rooms. I had a photo wall and would like to have one in the new first floor. Winning this would help me get started. Thanks for the chance and the inspiration.

Your post is what I aspire to. There is a wall in our living room earmarked for photos....but it never crossed my mind to have a gathering of them in the kids' rooms. Wow. I AM gonna do it! Thank you Ali, for your inspiration.

we have several groupings of photos and even kidART in nearly every space in our home. but only one canvas print. after seeing your combination of frames and canvas prints, i'm itching to grow my own wrapped/mounted photo collection. :) i especially adore the grouping of white frames that used to keep Anna company at the old place.....so sweet. :)

My room is plenty of frames and I love to change their photos every time we travel. It reminds us the good times we've spent together and we want to travel more and more.

I just love photo collages, I am sad my favorite one is on my bedroom wall. Sad only because not everyone that visits gets to see it! LOL! I am happy that each and every day I wake up to see those I love the most!

My favorite pictures are sadly still on my computer, but the idea of mounted pics make me really want to make my own collage! Thanks for the ideas and opportunity to win!

First - I love love LOVE Color Inc. Always happy to support a company right here in the great state of Michigan. Their product is wonderful, great prices, and seriously top notch service!
My favorite photos are a collection I hung in my office - simply mounted on styrene (Color Inc). Inexpensive, easy to change around, and very clean looking.
I really need to place an order and get more off my computer and up on to the walls! I'm inspired by your frame & frameless collections.

I have to say, I'm a bad mom who thinks that a frame is never good enough for a certain picture, so I just don't buy them....that means I have very little pictures around the house! I have been looking for a project and my first collage sounds like a great idea!

I have a very small collection in our dining room and a collage frame of the top 6 photos of 2009 from my blog. Haven't managed the top 5 for 2010... had a new baby and all that went out the window.
Love those mounted canvases... WOW!

Well, they are on my computer, but I upload to flickr immediately to share with friends and family. We have lots in our house, but it's more important right now that we're sharing with people who are far away.

Currently, photos are all put away other than the albums that are out. Took photos off the wall to paint years ago... and they didn't go back up.
