Stop The Car! Stop The Car!

Going To See Grandma & Grandpa

Simon is off at Grandma & Grandpa camp this week.

Chris and I drove him to Portland to drop him off with my parents on Monday. He's been looking forward to this for weeks and was so excited he could hardly stand it.

On the drive up he shared with us the three chapters from something called Old Bear Stories. And when I say "he shared" I mean he word-for-word repeated the entire video that includes three stories about Old Bear. He first watched this video years ago when one of my parents neighbors brought the VHS tape over for him. It's actually probably the first thing he likes to do when he visits my parents at the beach. It's probably a close tie between watching that video and going out along the tall grass trail.

When we pulled into the parking lot off I-205 and he saw my parents he really started getting excited. He was jumping up and down in his seat and yelling "Stop the car! Stop the car!" Chris could barely put it in park before he was out the door running over to hug them both. Big hugs. Big smiles.

We chatted for a few minutes and then he was ready for us to go. He started pushing us toward our car and then pretending that he was a pied piper and we were supposed to follow him over to our car and then get in and go so he could get on with his vacation.

Simon's relationship with my parents continues to be so, so special. I feel thankful all the time that he is able to have such a strong bond with them.

That is just so sweet!! My son was born with Down Syndrome and I could barely get my paretns to watch him overnight so I could have a break! Count your blessings. Me personally, I LOVE spending time with my grandchildren!! I can't think of anything more important.

I have just jumped over to Red Lead Paper Works site - oh my! Their range is just gorgeous - I feel so inspired and real bonus for me - they ship internationally at reasonable rates. Thanks for the introduction Ali :) Enjoy your special time with Anna. I always treasured the time we had with our younger daughter when our eldest was with my parents. It is just a different dynamic.

What a wonderful story, both the "Stop the Car" story and the story of Simon "sharing" three chapters with you. My son Ian loves to tell me the "story" of books he has read or movies he has seen. It doesn't even phase him if I already watched the movie or read the book with him. It can take us weeks of nightly walks to get through the recounting of one movie. It makes me happy because it makes him so happy. And I can never remember the movies/stories in as much detail as he does.

Simon and Anna are so lucky to have grandparents that want to spend time with them. One set of grandparents live 5 minutes from us and aren't interested in spending time with my little girl. The grandmother actually said "She's my 6th grandchild" so what she was saying was that the novelty has worn off. They only call when they want something so I don't make the effort either. My parents are 2 hours away and will gladly spend time with her any chance they get. She's still a bit young for gramma and grampa camp, but hopefully someday!

about that word-for-word thing...i have learned, over the years, to interject with 'short version, please' when Taylor gets going on a story. He wants my full attention when he talks to me still. Just turned 23. :)
