Simon's First Stop-Motion Video
Tags:Simon Edwards | Obi-wan vs. Anakin from Ali Edwards on Vimeo.
Last week while I attended his IEP meeting Simon got to hang out with his friend Ben. Ben and his Dad had just been perfecting the art of stop-motion and taught Simon the basics. We left there with the name of a small camera and the software (Frame By Frame) Simon needed to make some of his own videos here at home.
The camera arrived over the weekend and he's been making little videos daily since then. This first one is about 9 seconds long - you might have to push play twice (for some reason I did). So cool.

Awesome! Way to go Simon! Your video brought back memories of Willis O' Brien, Eliot Noyes Jr. and the stop motion movies I recall watching as a child, such as the original black and white Godzilla and King Kong movies. Every Sunday we would watch Gumby and Pokey. David and Goliath, Pinocchio, they were made this way too. I would love to see, and hope to see, more of your stop motion videos, Simon. Thanks for sharing.

That is so awesome! Reminds me of my boy, who's now almost 27! He used to make those videos, also of Star Wars, so many years ago!

Awesome, Simon! Can't wait to share with my sons:)
Also hope to come back here and hear of similar software for us PC-users. My sons film a lot of Lego-movies, in hopes of my turning it into stop-action or editing it for them using Movie Maker. But it just takes too much time...would love to hear of a kid-friendly software so THEY could edit!
One more thing---LOVED your newsletter today, Ali, and it made me think of Karen Maezen Miller's recent post about routine and ritual. She was talking about parenting but I found it to be just what I need to hear in terms of my own work/productivity:
