One Little Word 2013

My word for 2013 is open.
Last year I had a great story about how my word came to me. This year it was more of a whisper and to be honest I'm not really sure what it means for me right now, or what it will end up meaning for me 12-months from now. And I'm okay with that.
Open is an attitude and an approach. It's a reminder to live wholeheartedly, to enter the ring, to live the length and the width. It's how I want to tackle this year.
I love that open is an action & a re-action. I can act with an open heart; I can re-act with an open heart.
I want to be open to it all - the amazing and the challenging. Wide open.
Are you considering selecting a word for yourself (or letting one find you)? There's no right or wrong. The main thing to remember is that this is your word. It's not for your child, parent, partner, spouse, sister, etc.
And what do you do with this one little word?
You live with it. You invite it into you life. You let it speak to you. You might even follow where it leads. There are so many possibilities.
I'd love to read what word you've chosen or are considering for 2013. In the comments feel free to simply leave your word as your comment or write a bit about why you are choosing this word. In a couple days I'll combine all the words into a single post - super inspiring to see all the words in one place.
If you’re new to the concept of One Little Word, you can read some of my previous posts here: 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012.

ONE LITTLE WORD WORKSHOP
Registration is open for 2013 and you're invited to join the journey.
Each month you'll receive a prompt with a simple creative, writing, or photography project and a gentle reminder to check back in with your word. By the end of the year you'll have compiled the contents of an 8.5x11 album that documents, defines, celebrates and generally makes your word more visible. Workshop materials include printable elements, full-color PDF handouts, and video presentations.
People have been asking me if you have to be a scrapbooker for this class. My answer is no. Even though we are making an album it's really more of a journaling/record keeping/thinking/exploring project. I'm excited to see how people interpret the prompts and make them meaningful for their own lives.
This is not complicated and it's not time-consuming. It's simply a way we can come together to share our experience with our words throughout the course of the year.
The One Little Word classroom opens on January 1, 2013.

My word is mingle. I'm newly single after a very long relationship and I tend to be a shut-in, so this year, I'm going to put myself out there, meet people, make new friends, and accept invitations.

I am going back and forth between STAND or BECOME. I like Stand for the ideas of "stand up" "stand firm" "stand out" and even knowing when to "stand down'. I like Become for the idea of becoming all I know I can be and living my life more fully.

My word for 2013 is breathe. I like the idea of breathing life into parts of my life that need to come alive and also the concept of taking a moment to breathe and take care of myself when things are overwhelming -- breathe in life, breathe out the troubles, breathe in the moments, breathe out the anxiety.

My 2013 word is "savor." One day I was just bursting with happiness and good feelings, and that was when "savor" came into my mind as my word. I realized that I am at a time in my life when I want to savor every moment and not take anything for granted. I want to live fully every single day and savor all of the good things that are a part of my life..

my word for 2013 will be : connect. Last year it was reach out, which worked very well for me. I tend to struggle all by myself being single and last year I found so much help and understanding from my friends. This year I'm trying to be open to find my soulmate and to really connect.

I wasn't planning to join but had my word find and nudge me.. "good". I was thinking of how I could either give the world good or bad, or possibly neutrality in my actions and words, but I decided that I wanted to bring more good to the world in 2013 because I think it could always use more. I have a tendency toward neutrality, status quo, keeping to myself, making things just ok. I want to be a good person, do good things, make good things... I want to surround myself with good.

Doing OLW again this year...my word is CONTROL. So much of my life has been out of control lately and I want it back. Control of my weight and health, control of my finances, control over the clutter and distractions in my home and life, control of my happiness. Looking forward to the challenges and discoveries OLW brings.

My word for 2013 is "Do" as in stop procrastinating and just do it.

After posting my word, I started thinking that maybe it was "too simple." So I looked up do in the theasaurs. Synonums for do included achieve, complete, make, move, organize, etc. Yup, I picked the right word because that is what I want to do this coming year.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this class! This is the first year that my word hasn't been crystal clear. It needs to convey a specific thing--can anyone help? "SELECT', and "DISCERN" are the closest so far. I'm looking for a word that means: choose among allllll the stuff, so that the end result is a life full of right things, the things that are the most beneficial for me. (Seems that I don't actively select, & I end up feeling chaotic and frustrated.) Any ideas? Thanks!

My word for 2013 is INTENT. Eat with intent. Spend with intent. Create and read and write with intent. Add purpose and meaning to every moment, and refuse to accept "coasting".

This is great! We could all live with a little more intent. I know that I am often in trouble because I do not have a clear grasp of the intent behind my actions. Best of luck.

My word came to me in the form of a whisper, too. - GRACE-
I need to more fully understand the virtue, the unmerited divine assistance and the state of sanctification that is enjoyed through GRACE.
Grace has many more facets that I need to define and embody.
Grace can also be defined as approval, favor, mercy, pardon and privilege; a disposition to or an act or instance of kindness, courtesy, or clemency; a charming or attractive trait; a pleasing appearance; ease and suppleness of movement; used as a title of address or reference for a duke a duchess, or an archbishop; a short prayer at a meal asking a blessing or giving thanks; a musical trill; a sense of propriety; the quality or state of being considerate or thoughtful; to confer dignity or honor on; adorn and embellish.
I suspect that my OLW is going to keep me busy this year--but will ultimately soften and change me into a more gracious creature.

My word this year is DO . .it scares me silly which means I must embrace it and see what the year brings. My favourite quote for 'do' is
We cannot do great things, but we can do small things with great love." ~ Mother Teresa
