One Little Word 2013

My word for 2013 is open.
Last year I had a great story about how my word came to me. This year it was more of a whisper and to be honest I'm not really sure what it means for me right now, or what it will end up meaning for me 12-months from now. And I'm okay with that.
Open is an attitude and an approach. It's a reminder to live wholeheartedly, to enter the ring, to live the length and the width. It's how I want to tackle this year.
I love that open is an action & a re-action. I can act with an open heart; I can re-act with an open heart.
I want to be open to it all - the amazing and the challenging. Wide open.
Are you considering selecting a word for yourself (or letting one find you)? There's no right or wrong. The main thing to remember is that this is your word. It's not for your child, parent, partner, spouse, sister, etc.
And what do you do with this one little word?
You live with it. You invite it into you life. You let it speak to you. You might even follow where it leads. There are so many possibilities.
I'd love to read what word you've chosen or are considering for 2013. In the comments feel free to simply leave your word as your comment or write a bit about why you are choosing this word. In a couple days I'll combine all the words into a single post - super inspiring to see all the words in one place.
If you’re new to the concept of One Little Word, you can read some of my previous posts here: 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012.

ONE LITTLE WORD WORKSHOP
Registration is open for 2013 and you're invited to join the journey.
Each month you'll receive a prompt with a simple creative, writing, or photography project and a gentle reminder to check back in with your word. By the end of the year you'll have compiled the contents of an 8.5x11 album that documents, defines, celebrates and generally makes your word more visible. Workshop materials include printable elements, full-color PDF handouts, and video presentations.
People have been asking me if you have to be a scrapbooker for this class. My answer is no. Even though we are making an album it's really more of a journaling/record keeping/thinking/exploring project. I'm excited to see how people interpret the prompts and make them meaningful for their own lives.
This is not complicated and it's not time-consuming. It's simply a way we can come together to share our experience with our words throughout the course of the year.
The One Little Word classroom opens on January 1, 2013.

My word is "enough": focusing on realizing I have enough, that doing my best is enough, that being 'me' is enough, that God is enough. (the more I type "enough", the stranger it looks!) I'm going to post the word throughout my house and at work as a reminder. I'm hoping the end result will be a sense of contentment and peace. Can't wait to start the process!

My word for 2013 is Release. There are things from my past that keep weighing me down and it is time to let them go. As well as some bad habits and thought patterns.

[...] One Little Word: Ali Edwards offers an online workshop to stay in touch with your word theme throughout a year. And Ali collects and shares people’s words. A great source of word inspiration, or need ideas. [...]

I've never done this before but as this year went on I kept thinking about it and thought it was time I chose a word for the year. I'm going with NO/LESS. I know it sounds negative but really, it's the opposite (unless you're the person I'm saying no to, lol!). I spent all of this year feeling overwhelmed with household things, children, overcommitting to social things, etc. So in 2013 I want to do less. And I'm hoping that by doing less in terms of social life and over committing to things that I'll have more time to get my house in order, be less impatient with my kids as I shouldn't be as stretched for time... I'm not good at saying No as I like to help people out and do things for others so it's going to be interesting to see if I actually manage thing. I really do hope so!

My word for 2013 is "true." I want to practice being true to myself, being honest with myself about things that I want and don't want, and finding truth every day. It's a word that represents finding "me time" and thinking about the unconscious at work behind my actions.

My word is fierce. Last year, it was refresh ... and it was a resonant, meaningful, restorative year with this intention clearly in mind, so I was sure to think about it for this year, too. This fierce is the alive, bold, courageous, "just give it a go" kind of fierce ... to be awake to living, laughing, loving with a fierce, strong, full-on energy. No more tentative for this year -- that's over. And while it was right for then, this is now ... and it's gonna be fierce!

I am still working this one over....it is either BE or DO. I selected DO last year after hearing a Steven Curtis Chapman song EVERY TIME I got in my car...."do every little thing that you do to the glory of the one who made you".....this year both words are speaking to me, but for different reasons. Hopefully one will grab me by midnight!!:)

My One Little Word is Embrace Possibilities. 2012 was a life changing year, and I realized that I need to enjoy the ride more and keep my mind and heart open to the things that are out there to experience.

Last year, my word was CARE because I needed to take care of myself, my family, my creativity. It served me well.
This year, I've chosen the word HOPE. It just came to me without a story or a purpose. I like that it's positive and forward looking.

My word for 2013 is SHINE. It comes from this quote:
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
