My word is CHEER :) For feeling good and appreciating all the little things that make my life a blessed one. And, for being able to support my kids in their endeavours (hockey, dance & everything else). We've also started a cheer jar - where we note things that make us happy and put them in. On Dec 31, 2013, we'll sit down and read all about our amazing year of cheer :)

    Hi Ali,
I did not initially respond to the OLW posts bc I had decided this year I would not do it. It wasn't working for me and I could not think of a word. Nothing meaningful came to me at all.

Now I have changed my mind. I wrote a whole (long) blog post on it if you want to read it. But my word is NURTURE.

It's funny, when you google images for "nurture yourself" you get a lot of yoga and bubble bath pics. But that is NOT the meaning I am ascribing to nurture. The short story is, a had a conversation last week that included this gem:

Everything that is good in life comes with an element of suffering.

It blew my mind. And we talked about NURTURING vs INDULGING. For me, I love to indulge myself by lazing around and doing other things that are fine in moderation, but have negative effects over time. Relaxing, eating whatever I want, reading a book instead of doing laundry, etc are not, for me "nurturing" activities. They are indulgent things.

Nurturing, in this sense, is doing things that take care of yourself and have positive long term effects (for some people that might include relaxing with a good book, just not for me). Nurturing is going to the gym. Nurturing is doing my laundry so I have clothes for work. Nurturing is saving money instead of blowing it.

There's more at my blog post but that is the gist, My word is NURTURE.

My One Little Word, is actually a Big Word for me. It's time for a CHANGE in my life.
I'm not a big fan of change, but I just think it's about time for a change.
Thank you Ali, for opening my eyes to One Little Word.

I retired 9/30. And love the idea of One Little Word as my life becomes my own after 68 years. After discarding invent, re-invent, and discover, I chose ADAPT, with Create a secondary word to accompany the project that comes along with OLW. I'm adapting the project too; I'm done with scheduling my life :) I will focus on one task each month, develop a page, and at the end of each month choose one word to summarize the month. I wish everyone happiness with your words.

My word is on the list - Steps. Last year my word was choices. I feel it was a word I didn't live up to as far as making wise choices - not in things like relationships but in the way I ate, my choices to stay active, keep busy etc. It overwhelmed me and made me feel like a failure. I'm not sorry I mad a one little word choice it taught me a lot. Thus steps. I learned I can't always just jump in. Sometimes we have to take steps toward our goals rather than the goal just be met instantaneously. I am looking forward to seeing my "steps" take me where I need to go in this new year.

For most of December I was pretty sure my OLW would be YES. Late December however I had a feeling that my word should be ASK for 2013 Yesterday I became sure of it, so I decided that my main word would be ASK and I may use YES as a secondary word.
