The Way I Start My Day | Favorite Morning Reads

AE_FavoriteMorningReads

I like to start my day reading something positive and uplifting.

Below I've compiled a list of the things I read most weekday mornings. They all come to my inbox (and I'm pretty picky about what I invite in there) - some are newsletters, some are blog posts, and some are a daily auto-generated emails.

I actually often read these before I get out of bed. I'm not sure it's a habit I want to keep or one I want to promote. I sometimes feel like it's too much technology first thing and I should wait longer before I go directly to my screen. That said, I appreciate the daily shot of positive thinking that comes from these sources. I often read them quickly first thing and then come back to them again once I'm at my desk a few hours later after the morning routine of kids and breakfast and driving to school is completed to actually soak up their wisdom.

These people inspire me to live more fully in alignment with my own personal values and I'm thankful for their contribution to my life.

I have quite a few other blogs and inspiring sites in Feedly that I read occasionally when I have time or am looking for inspiration, but these are the ones (at least right now) that I actually invite into my inbox.

What are your daily reads? Do you read first thing in the AM or later in the day?

I want to be more conscious about how I start my day, so thank you for this post. I know the days I feel best are the ones when I stay offline the longest, get up before my boys, and move---whether walking the dog or going to the gym. When I start with email, I get sucked in and don't "come up for air" until an hour or more later.

I subscribe to a few newsletters and blogs, but I don't let them land in my inbox. I love Brainpickings and Soulemama and Chatting at the Sky (Emily Freeman's site).

Seth Godin's blog is the only one I let land in my inbox---because I know it will be short, almost never have links (no temptations), and usually apply to my business in a way that uplifts me.

Thanks for the great list Ali, I'll check them out! I don't have any set routine but I don't keep electronics in my bedroom so all my reading happens on my computer after I'm up and moving. I like to read blogs on breaks, like little rewards for getting things done. I also don't read the same things every day. Sometimes it's scrapbooking, sometimes it's fabric arts, sometimes it's cooking, sometimes it's inspirational, sometimes it's fashion. Sometimes I don't even get on the computer! gasp! ;) But I do enjoy your perspective and your aesthetic and always catch up. Thanks!

Thanks for list. I think it's a sign of great generosity for a blogger to link to other blogs.
