Project Life® 2015 | Week Seven
This week I decided to do one of those Project Life spreads where I create a bunch of journal cards and repeat them across the two (or more) pages to tell the story of the week.
Super happy how it turned out. Read on to learn about the process:
For the cards I used a combination of the gold paint + story screen print from the new Magic Story Kit™ + these awesome number stamps from Tim Holtz with the Grey Flannel Memento Ink.
And, good news, the Magic Story Kits™ have been restocked so all of you who were on the waiting list should be getting a notification that the kit is shipping. If you'd like to begin your Story Subscription with the Magic Kit™ you can do so here.
Here's a look at the individual pieces of the week:
For this week I started by printing out all the photos I wanted to use and slipping them into the pockets. I decided that I wasn't going to add many, if any, embellishments to my photos this week and let the journal cards do their job.
You'll see that I varied the placement of the screenprint and the numbers on the journal cards - no right or wrong, just how I felt like putting them together this week.
In addition to "story" and the numbers I also added the date with a rolling date stamp and on most of them I also added a sentiment stamp from one of my other stamp sets such as the Week In The Life™ set, the Photos set, and the Celebrate set. I used Morocco Orange Memento Luxe Ink with those.
Dear Anna, you keep bringing home the artwork and I'll keep using it as my date cards. Love, Mom.
Here's a look at my tabletop while I was working on those cards. You do need to clean the screenprints between each use otherwise it doesn't work as great.
Ah, repetition, I love you.
THE INSERT
I did include an insert this week because once I printed out all the photos I wanted to use I could tell I needed a bit more space. I chose to go with a divided 6x8 page protector - yep, they fit right into the 12x12 rings. And as usual, I added a 2-inch Avery Index label along the edge.
Here's what it looks like out of the album:
I considered a bunch of different things for that other pocket but went with the super simple option of one wood veneer star. I stitched along the top to keep it inside the pocket.
On the second page of the spread I added a couple more photos that went along with the journaling plus one of those gold foil letterpress cards from the Studio Calico calendar.
And because I'm thinking a lot about magic this month with the Story Kit™, I loved adding this simple chipboard piece from the kit to the photo in the fog. I posted this photo on Instagram a few weeks back. I drive by this spot just about everyday when taking Simon to school. The fog isn't an everyday thing, but it's not abnormal either. There have been so many times when I've driven by this place and thought to myself that I wanted to stop and take a photo. This was the day I did just that.

Ali I have the digital story kit membership but if that month we want to buy the stamp is that possible?
Hi Jana - you can purchase the stamp set as a month-to-month subscription and then cancel before the next month (as stated in the FAQ) - you need to cancel between the 15th and the 25th to avoid a fee (after it has shipped).

The numbered story cards are wonderful. Do you ever miss incorporating 6x4 vertical photos? Or do you take horizontal shots to intentionally fit these page protectors?
I almost always take horizontal shots - seriously. It's rare for me to take a vertical photo. If I want a vertical shot I use the 3x4 pockets - but even then I'm usually cropping it from a horizontal orientation.

I really love how you go into detail about what you're using and how, and including the products. That must be a lot of extra work, thanks. You are so creative. I love seeing your weeks. Thanks so much. Michelle t
Thanks Michelle!
Agreed. Love the supply links you automatically list. It also eliminates all the questions and requests for information --which is also nice for us readers not have to wade through :)

By the way, do you have a week scheduled for A week in the Life this year? Like to think ahead although I'm not done with december daily yet! ;)
We are talking about August - no specific dates just yet.

Love how this layout came together! So much fun supplies, yet simple. I don't think I can do this in that way! lol But I like looking!

Love the layout! Always inspirational and motivates me to get moving on my projects. Am wondering about the Roald Dahl quote card - is it from a PL kit? Maybe it's in the Magic Story Kit...I haven't received mine in the mail yet. Also wondering if you can offer a suggestion about where to find a small rectangular acrylic stamping block? I'm having a hard time finding a smaller block to use with smaller stamps. Thanks!
It was from a letterpress calendar that Studio Calico sold either late last year or in January. It was a subscriber exclusive if I remember correctly. I'll have to look a bit to see if I can figure out where that small block came from. I'm thinking Stampin Up or Close To My Heart.
Many thanks! Really appreciate all of the ideas and inspiration. A quick peek at your blog always lights the creative fire to get me back to my layouts and projects and to remember the significance of each story.
I can't even begin to tell you just how AMAZING this page is!! SO CREATIVE!!! I sit here and look at your pages and inspiration each and every day and I have yet to do any scrapbooking or PL!! I'm scared as it won't be as AWESOME as yours, but I just have to start!! And I will...I PROMISE!!! Just wondering when Katie will be back on with her PL? Is she still doing it but not posting? I LOVE her pages as well!! Would LOVE to see what you have been doing Katie!!! THANKS!!!
Hey peggy1958sue. Your Project Life will be awesome, not because it's like Ali's but because it's yours. Your stories, your photos. If it doesn't seem awesome when you start just hang in there for a few weeks and then go back and look at it. You'll see stories that you decided to tell and things you felt were important to remember. :)
