Lens Of Joy Returns | 4-Week Photography Workshop

UPDATE: This workshop is now available as a self-paced class to take any time: https://aliedwards.com/shop/classes/lens-of-joy-self-paced

Designed with the storyteller in mind, Lens Of Joy is a 4-week online photography workshop that takes a deep dive into processes related to capturing life through the lens of your camera. I'll will walk you through my personal workflow from picking up the camera, looking through the lens, establishing the story, experiencing the moment, composing, uploading, organizing, editing, printing and pairing the end result with words to tell a more complete story.

I think this workshop is especially timely as we get closer to Week In The Life™ - there are tons of ideas and tips and all my thoughts in one place about the ways in which I look through the lens of my camera and my reasons why.

Please note that this is a re-run of the same exact workshop that ran in the fall of 2014. All the content will be the same with the exception of the weekly Q&A videos which will be re-recored based on new Q&A threads each week.

ALUMNI OPTION | If you previously took this workshop in 2014 we are offering an alumni-option for those of you who might want to participate again with the live re-run for $24. Stay-tuned for details on this option.

STUDENT REVIEWS

  • moneybag | Wow, Ali you totally Wowed me with the class. I think i have figured out what has happen to my photography over the past four years. This class has reclaimed the excitement / and my voice I used to have before I had to put my camera down. Thank you so much for offering a class like this. I had to dig deep to figure things out:)
  • Pat8 | I have gotten so much from this class about joy in what I do, about looking for story, technical tips, encouragement, design principles, and too many other things to name. Your video on shooting around the house was so very very helpful. Watching you work, hearing your talk through your objectives and methods, they were all fabulous.
  • Char | I feel like this class perfect timing for me. I had started to become more intentional in my memory keeping and really spending more time on telling more complete stories. This class has really energized me and it is so lovely to listen to someone a few times a week who feels as passionate as you do about this hobby and the wonderful things that come out of it. So thank you so much for doing this class. It has been wonderful and I have learned a lot.

Please consider joining me for Lens Of Joy as we explore the ways we look through the lens and how that impacts that stories we tell.

This is still my #1 favorite class of yours and trust me that is hard to quantify with so many rich content classes I have taken with you. I go back time and again to all of the lessons. From finding my voice to ways of bringing that through the lens on to the printed page. I have even begun saving to upgrade my camera lens because my vision is so much clearer since taking the class. So worth the money. If anyone is on the fence, I could not recommend it enough. Thank you for helping define, for me anyways, what I had been trying to do for awhile. Thank you again. Jill B

Is this a class that is self-paced or do you have to keep up with all of the lessons at the time they are released. My work schedule doesn't always allow me to keep up with online classes very well. But if it is self-paced I can make it work. thanks!

Hi! All my classes are archived and you have continued access to them going forward - meaning you can take any lesson you want at any time once it's gone live for the week. "Live" class just means that I'm actively participating during the 4-week period.

So excited you are offering this again. The timing in the last one didn't work for me and I was so bummed. Life is crazy right now - and April will be insanely busy as we gear up for a big family event on April 30 - but I'm not missing this class this time around! You are an amazing teacher and I'm really looking forward to it!

This was an incredible experience!! I just redid the course on my own when Storytelling with Project Life ended. Cannot believe how much I got out of the material, thank you for sharing your process and inspiring me to tell my stories.

Looking forward to the Alumni Option. This was a great class and I'm psyched about the option to learn more!

Hi. I have been following you since way back late 1990's. :o) I love everything you scrapbook about life. I am very interested in your photography workshop however, i am deaf. i do not read lips. How can you accommodate my need for your workshop if you include voice, video and etc? is there a written transcripts? thanks!

Hi Cynthia - at this time my classes do not have direct transcripts of the video presentations. I do include handouts with each lesson that cover much of the material included in the videos/presentations but it's not a direct transcript.

I love the sound of this class but I only have a Sony Cybershot, a point and shoot type camera. Do I need a proper DSLR for this class?

    Hi Ali

I am really on the fence about this class given the cost. I know the course will be jam packed. My biggest issue is sitting down and actually getting my pics off my camera and printed at home. will this course help me do that? Its become like this barrier for me (which I know is silly)

    Thanks

Well, I won't be coming to your house and making you get your pics off your camera and printed at home :). So I can't really promise you canting along those lines. I can tell you that it really is designed to get you excited about taking photos and show you step by step what I do to get them off my phone and into my projects.

Hope it happens. Realize time is short, though.

    Hey Ali

I know this workshop has just finished up, I'm just wondering if it will be running again this year or offered as a self pace class.
I would love to do something like this for inspiration. My photos and project life have become very repetitive. I have just signed up for the story subs and WOW!!! You have all ready given me so many ideas. I have been stalking your blog on and off over the last 2years lol and finally decided just to jump in. Already blown away :)
    Thanks :)

Hi - yes - I think we have it on the schedule to offer it as a self-paced class (meaning it will be available ongoing) by the end of the year. You can also always send a message to my customer service team if you really want to take it right now and they can help you out.
