Beach Weekend & Happy Thanksgiving & Sale Update

One of my favorite things is waking up at my parents home on the Oregon coast.

Last weekend Aaron and I headed down there to visit, to relax, to read, to eat & drink, and to walk.

We walked along one of the trails along the coast that leads to Shore Acres State Park. Rain was in the forecast but it ended up being beautiful - cold but beautiful.

When we walk we talk about the walks we've taken before, about what the kids are up to, about what we'll eat & drink later, and about how darn amazingly beautiful it all is out there.

I take photos of them, she takes photos of us.

My Dad was up early with a trip to the store for a sale he saw on poinsettias and paperwhites and amaryllis bulbs.

This is one of my favorite photos from our quick trip. A simple shot, looking in through a doorway, at a moment in time.

My Dad + his iPad + his vodka gimlet (which were awesome - recipe here) + a rolling wicker chair + the door of the oven ajar while he sits and cooks crab cakes.

I know many of you are heading to visit family this weekend - maybe think about capturing some shots like this of your own family. People in their element, people doing what they do, people not looking at the camera. I also love that this shot includes other basic stuff of life that are things I'll want to see again someday.

I love how my Mom sets a table. Candles + water with ice + place mats + small dishes.

Super thankful for my parents and their hospitality.

Happy Thanksgiving to anyone celebrating!

Thank you for being a part of this community.

Your photos are lovely, absolutely beautiful. I love your mom's boots, really cool. My girlfriend is crazy about vodka gimlets, I'll share your recipe. Thanks for the story kit sale, I was able to pick up a couple stamp sets to go with some story kits. Enjoy your Thanksgiving!

I love those boots also! They are called Muck Boots and they are still available online - about $140 now. We probably paid half that price when Al found them for many many years ago. They are awesome and really comfortable to wear.

I too live in the Washington/Oregon area you describe. I've lived here most all of my life, just a few hours away from our own part of the Oregon Coast. The only time I lived elsewhere was when I was in college in Tennessee. I swore after that that I would never again live in a landlocked state. There really is nothing like making that drive to the ocean, even as cold and rainy as our coast tends to be. I'm glad you get the opportunity to really enjoy it with your parents.

I am in awe of the scenery near your folks' home - just wonderful and how amazing you get to visit that. It's just a normal Thursday here in the UK tomorrow, but hope you have a bloody good Thanksgiving, Ali.

We have traveled and stayed along the Oregon coast the last three May's....and the area around Shore Acres is truly one of my favorites.....my other favorite, Nehalem....both so different, both so beautiful. You are indeed blessed to have this area so near and dear. Loved every photo...especially the table in front of the window...looking out to the vast beauty of the earth's wonder. I see some genetic mirroring between you and your mother, even though I don't know either of you.

    Ok I'm curious.
In your favorite photo (the one of your dad)...there is a mirror on the wall with a white cup thingie What is that?
and by the way my favorite is the one of your parents looking out into the ocean.

Hi Vicki, The mirror is a special, fun thrift store purchase Al found several years ago. The frame is myrtlewood with the opening area at the bottom. We just happened to have an antique vase that belonged to Al's Mom that fit in the hole perfectly. We try to keep fresh flowers in that vase - it had the last booms of hydragangas the day before Ali and Aaron came to visit. I hope to have sprigs of Holly soon, for the holiday season.
