December Daily® 2017 | Day 04

Welcome to  December Daily® 2017 | Day 04.

Today I'm telling the story of Simon coming back home and being super excited to catch up on his Lego Star Wars Advent Calendar. His enthusiasm is always contagious.

To create a home for my story today I used on the layered templates included with the  December Daily® 6x8 Layered Template Set Vol 4. Want to learn more about using digital products in paper projects? Check out my Hybrid Workshop for an awesome introduction to working with my digital projects to create layouts and projects that combine both physical and digital products.

I love the some days can be super "crafty" and others can simply focus on the words and photos. Do what works best for you and the season you are living in right now.

As a reminder, here is what I had in my album for Day 04:

And here's a look at what I ended up with for Day 04:

I used one of the layered templates included in the  December Daily® 6x8 Layered Template Set Vol. 4 to create the base of my layout. I first cropped my photo to the size of the page protectors (the outside dimensions = 6.75 x 8.25) and then adjusted the layered template in Photoshop by making the white box a bit larger and making the line a little longer to accommodate the additional width (originally the templates are sized to 6x8). I considered using the word art that was originally included with this layered template but decided to keep the focus more on the photo.

Font used for journaling is  Sentinel

On top of the photo I added three things: (1) a large white number 4 from this sticker sheet + a gold foil circle ("this moment") from the Main Kit + a very small red felt heart from the Main Kit.

Font size here is 9pt.

Here is the page outside the album:

    Hi Ali
This is beautiful! I am using the template in PSE 13 on a PC and I don't seem to be able to extend the template to the larger size. Are you able to elaborate on how you did that please?

Hi! Move the individual pieces vs. the entire template. Select the layer of the background (the white part) and grab a corner and drag to the outside edge of the photo and down (I cropped my photo first and then added the template on top).

Love love love this layout! Especially the photo and this "never get too old for the magic, Simon." Isn't that what we all wish in our hearts for our kids :)

I love that Simon still loves these Advent calendars and love that there are now five for all of them. A house full of love!

I love that Simon still gets into it at age 16. I worry about that with my oldest who has long given up on Santa. Sigh.

That square wreath looks so cool!

This is my first year "doing" December Daily and I'm enjoying it and keeping up (so far!). One thing I haven't been doing is adding a number to each day because I'm looking at it as more of a documentation of the month rather than specific days. I hope I don't regret that decision, although I suppose I can always go back and add them later. Does anyone else skip the numbers? Trying not to get too worried about it!

I have done it both ways. The first few years, I was anal about documenting one thing each day and using the numbers. I still had kids at home so could make it work.

Now that my son is in college, and it’s just me and my husband, I just tell December stories and don’t worry about the date so much. In fact, with a big Thanksgiving, I began starting there and just told 25 stories. Now I’m even more casual. Even those who have young kids change it up because it can get repetitive.

There is no right or wrong or regrets. You’ll look back on it with joy. The December Dailies are the one scrapbook I do that is actually revisited by my family, so I’m glad I started this project years ago.

Each year, as I see the same names pop up to share their project, my heart warms. As I go to the blogs for ideas, I feel like I’m revisiting old friends. I’ve been doing this project and checking out some of you for five years!

    Merry almost Christmas everybody!

I'm always scared I won't like my foundation pages and that I will end up wasting product. Maybe I should try it next year though. Looking at this it still seems versatile enough for daily creativity. Here are my days 1-4. http://rockermorsan.blogspot.se/2017/12/its-december.html
