Tags:Just got in after another wonderful mountain adventure. The one bad thing? My camera battery died and I forgot to pack my spare...let that be a lesson to me. There was TONS of snow. Simon got snow pants and boots and we took walks in the winter wonderland of Sunriver. I love that place. So relaxing. Did not have to "be" anywhere. Just hanging.
I read Jane Pauley's new book Skywriting: A Life Out of the Blue. It was interesting to read more about her, but I found it...as one reviewer on Amazon.com wrote...to be a "lite" autobiography. She gives you just enough honesty and emotion but something seemed to be missing. It was bits and pieces and stream of consciousness - which definitely kept me reading as I finished it in one day - but just seemed to be lacking in overall depth.
I am also continuing to read Traveling Mercies by Anne Lamott which is simply delightful and endearing and so very real. I am cherishing this book by reading one short chapter a night. It is a book that I can see myself rereading again down the road. There have been many ideas and thoughts throughout the book that I have written down or marked for additional later reflection. It is a book about life and faith and making it through. So, so good.
Sunriver has always been a place for me to read :). Totally something I have loved about it as a destination. My sister-in-law Maria had a copy of a new magazine called Breathe. Totally engulfed me. Inspired me with thoughts about life and balance and finding meaning. It is a lifestyle/culture magazine with stories about yoga, cooking, decorating, real people, etc. I am subscribing immediately.
It was a great relaxing couple of days. Now it is time to take down the ornaments, get rid of the already dead tree, clean up this place and get ready for New Year's Eve :)!

Anne Lamott is fantastic. Her "Operating Instructions" is just as good as "Traveling Mercies." And she's also good at fiction.
