This thing I do...

scrapbooking. Crazy. Never imagined it would become such a big part of my life. Of what I do almost everyday. On my mind. In my heart. Getting to create as a job - specifically creating for my family - is a such a gift. I try to be really mindful of this as I go about my days. It is something that I am so thankful to have in my life.
This month the magazine I work with came out with a Top 10 issue. That is my little "10" creation there on the cover. You can see a larger version here. They have been really cool in inviting me to do some graphic design work as well - such as the intro piece to my article in this same issue. I like having a bit of variety thrown into the mix.
Last night and yesterday I was reading Rebecca Sower's Scrapbooking Life's Little Moments. I love looking at her work. She employs so many handmade touches and artistic accents: sewing, paints, fabric, etc. Her pages are so appealing to me, even though our design styles are so completely different. We both value the same basic thing: capturing the details and the thoughts and feelings of our lives. Reading her book makes me want to scrapbook. Makes me want to journal more...keep more lists of the little things I experience (or we experience) during the normal days. And the not-so-normal days. Rebecca's first book Scrapbooking Life's Little Treasures was the first idea book I purchased. It spoke to me on so many different levels. This was right when I was first starting out with scrapbooking - her influence on the way that I think about the stories I want to tell is obvious I hope. I want to be the kind of scrapbooker that communicates that life is in the details. In the moments.

Ali, I just picked up CK's 'Top Ten' and have been oogling your great lo. I've been doing the whole simplicity thing lately and trying to move towards a more graphic look, thanks for the great inspiration! There's a great sb store here in FL and I might pick up the Rebecca Sower book.
