A virgin no more...
Tags:After 13 years of driving I finally got a speeding ticket. I have crossed over into a new world.
I was driving home from Costco, zipping along in my Corolla listening to consumer advocate Clark Howard talk about spending less and saving more (ironic isn't it?), when what do my wondering eyes should appear...an unmarked maroon police car trailing behind me with his lights flashing away. Totally did not even know he was there. I was going 80 in a 65. A stretch I drive each time I go to and from my house. Totally knew I was driving that fast because that is how fast I always drive on the freeway. As I pulled over to the side of the road I was almost laughing out loud and I am pretty sure I was smiling - after 13 years my time had come.
I almost wanted to hug the officer. While he was writing up the ticket I imagined myself in past years...knowing that I would have reacted differently...would have cried and been worried and upset and afraid. Instead, I was happy. Happy that it could happen to me now...when I am safely out of my parents home (love you guys) and the wrath I would have feared would come my way. The disapproving eyes. Instead, I am 29. I am married. And it was made even easier by the fact that Chris has had more than one ticket since we have been married. I called him and told him I was not a virgin anymore - he just about had a panic attack because he thought I meant I was pregnant LOL (sorry Chris).
Of course I do not condone breaking the law for the sake of feeling free...but it was almost freeing getting this ticket. I was naughty and I got caught! And I will gladly pay my fine for my infraction.

Welcome to the Club!!!! So funny to hear you are happy about getting a speeding ticket!! I've had a few in my days and yet I still dislike them immensely! Got my first one around 2-3 weeks after getting my license...still remember the day like it was just yesterday! LOL

ALI!
You should definitely present this post to the judge for a reduction of your fee! I bet he/she would enjoy reading it.
How funny that you recognized how it was nice to get a ticket when you were no longer under the "wrath"!
Cheers to the loss of your virginity and the positive outlook you have on life to happily accept this event!

LMAO! You are funny, A. And you are naughtier than I. I am still a virgin, although a couple years ago, I did get pulled over (with my mom in the car) and got a warning. I cried. That was back in my good girl, play-by-the-rules days. ;)

crack me up! put a big smile on my face remembering the one - *knock on wood* - ticket i got going home for christmas break with my 10 gallon fish tank in the front seat, half full of fish and water. the guy was such a jerk and kept asking me questions about the fish, give me a ticket already or whatever! i was still under the wrath though, and tears were shed. what a happy experience this was for you! ;)

I just got pulled over a few months ago for running a yellow light (didn't know it was illegal) and turning too wide onto the freeway (I was also on my cell phone gabbing away as well). I totally lied to the officer and told him I was driving frantically to the hospital because my friend's dad just had a heart attack! What!?!? No clue where that came from but I must have pulled it off pretty good because he gave me a warning and told me not to talk on the phone while I was driving. Needless to say as I pulled back onto the freeway, I called my friend back... After the incident I invested in a hands-free device.
