A virgin no more...

After 13 years of driving I finally got a speeding ticket. I have crossed over into a new world.

I was driving home from Costco, zipping along in my Corolla listening to consumer advocate Clark Howard talk about spending less and saving more (ironic isn't it?), when what do my wondering eyes should appear...an unmarked maroon police car trailing behind me with his lights flashing away. Totally did not even know he was there. I was going 80 in a 65. A stretch I drive each time I go to and from my house. Totally knew I was driving that fast because that is how fast I always drive on the freeway. As I pulled over to the side of the road I was almost laughing out loud and I am pretty sure I was smiling - after 13 years my time had come.

I almost wanted to hug the officer. While he was writing up the ticket I imagined myself in past years...knowing that I would have reacted differently...would have cried and been worried and upset and afraid. Instead, I was happy. Happy that it could happen to me now...when I am safely out of my parents home (love you guys) and the wrath I would have feared would come my way. The disapproving eyes. Instead, I am 29. I am married. And it was made even easier by the fact that Chris has had more than one ticket since we have been married. I called him and told him I was not a virgin anymore - he just about had a panic attack because he thought I meant I was pregnant LOL (sorry Chris).

Of course I do not condone breaking the law for the sake of feeling free...but it was almost freeing getting this ticket. I was naughty and I got caught! And I will gladly pay my fine for my infraction.
