Sunrises.

Sunrises have been speaking to me lately.

Yesterday morning, as I sat in the terminal in Salt Lake City, I was greeted with a beautiful sunrise coming up over the Wasatch mountains. I almost missed it. Sitting in my chair I was facing into the terminal...better position for people watching. I stood up to do something, readjust something, and as I turned toward the window waves of reds and pinks and oranges gazed back at me from within a sea of grey. That awesome early morning grey when things are still waking up.

I pulled my camera out of my bag and took a few shots, capturing the moment that was gone within a few minutes. I have learned from my recent backyard observations that these greetings tend to be so fleeting. They must be enjoyed in the instant they occur. No waiting allowed.

Sunrises announce the beginning of the day. Possibilities. Airports have totally come to represent possibilities to me. I often wonder as I walk through the airport where the other people are going...what is taking them away from home, or bringing them home again. Births, deaths, firings, hirings, family, relaxation, added stress, the quest - so many emotions within the terminal. Within the planes.

I wonder how many other passengers noticed the sunrise? Were their eyes open?

Had another great trip to Salt Lake. One thing I miss about working in an office environment is the conversation. The give and take, the chats, the up to the minute knowledge, the chance to add thoughts and opinions in real time within the context of the conversation. The brainstorming that flushes out the good and the bad to make way for the best. Getting a chance to be in on those discussions is one of the reasons I love Editorial Board Meetings. I also love that we get to hang out as friends. Always lots of laughing and catching up.

UPDATE
I wrote all of the above as I sat in front of the sunrise on Saturday morning. I ended up taking a "bump," getting a $600 travel voucher, and catching a plane to Eugene about two hours later. Now that is one of my favorite things. I am always the first one to jump at the chance to take a later flight home for some "free" airline money. Waiting that little bit longer means free tickets for Chris and I somewhere cool later this year. I love that. And they fed me lunch.
