In the middle of the night last night the following took place:

After being sick at home yesterday with a cough and fever, Simon was sleeping in bed with me (Chris was in the other bed so he could get some sleep) so I could help him sleep sitting up a bit to try and lessen the post-nasal drip that is contributing to the nasty cough. At an earlier point in the night Chris gave the dude some cough medicine - to which Simon protested loudly resulting in bright cherry medicine on his jammies and on my sheets. But Chris got the meds in the boy after only a little more drama.

Later on, it was time for more meds when he started coughing over and over again. This time it was just me. I brought the medicine and the spoon over into the bed. Earlier in the day I had success with him taking it without too much protesting...he likes saying "all done" at the end. In bed I had him sit up and snuggle close while I poured the medicine onto the spoon. I calmly told him he needed to take this to help his cough. He took one baby bite - you know the kind where it just touches the lips - and had a big grimace and a bit of a gag. (I absolutely hate the taste of cough medicine so I know the feeling...but I also know that it works.)

I said,  "Three more times buddy."

He took another. And then another.

"Last one." I said. "You are such a good boy Simon."

And he sucked down the last of that nasty medicine to which he said, "All done."

To which I replied, "Nice job buddy."

And he responded, "AWESOME." With a thumbs up. And then he said it two more times before snuggling in to sleep.

Yep. Awesome.

And on another note...

WalkloudI have mentioned Keri Smith in a blog in the past. She is an illustrator and author of a wonderful book called Living Out Loud : Activities to Fuel a Creative Life. I love this book. I pick it up here and there and always find something new, some tid bit I missed the last time around.

One of the activities includes cutting out this little pair of "dice" and then rolling them for a focus for the day. For a change of attitude, etc. Putting the verb square first today I rolled: walk loud. There are so many possibilities in those two little words. I imagined myself stomping around the house, going for a walk while singing (that would be loud and unfortunate for anyone in earshot). Or maybe it is simply a reminder to me to keep on my path. To put one foot in front of the other with the knowledge that I am going where I am supposed to be going...wherever that may be.

Keri also has a great blog you can find here: Wish Jar Journal.
