Christmas in March & April.
Tags:Chris and I gave each other event gifts this year. We have found that we both really enjoy the chance to get away together - doing something together that centers around an experience. This Thursday night we are headed up to Portland to watch the Trailblazers play the Sonics (NBA Basketball ladies) at the Rose Garden - my gift to Chris. It has been ages since I was at a NBA game - same for Chris. Should be cool even if they suck.
And then the following weekend, on April 3rd, we get to celebrate my Christmas at a Sting concert here in Eugene. AWESOME.
We saw Sting in concert at the Rose Garden a few years back and it was amazing. The best one I have been too - although Eric Clapton was pretty darn good too. This concert should be even cooler because we have better seats and it is a smaller venue on the University of Oregon campus (Mac Court).
So Merry Christmas and let the countdown begin!!!!

Ali, another pea here checking out your blog. Event gifts are a GREAT idea. Before our wedding, some very wise friends gave us a piece of advice that had blessed their marriage: Spend money on experiences more than just things. It has since blessed our marriage as well, as I'm sure sharing these fun events will for you and Chris.

What a cool idea for Chirstmas. We generally give ourselves one big something. Camera/lens/DVD player--see the technology theme?!?
Have a happy springtime Christmas :)

So much fun to give those kinds of gifts. Its almost like giving two presents. One when you give it, then you get another one when you actually go. Have fun, (and go Sonics!)
I tried to get Sting tickets too when he was up in Washington last summer. He played at an outdoor venue at the White River Amphitheater. Turn out the weather was horrible that day, so it turned out for the best...at least that is what I told myself :-( I love Sting....how cool, have fun!

I've seen Sting in concert three times, and each time was AMAZING! One concert Lyle Lovett opened for him, and they did a duet on "Long Tall Texan" that was TOO AWESOME! Enjoy the show, Ali!

How fun that you now get to "experience" your Christmas gifts TOGETHER! I hope you have a wonderful time at both. It was a gift in itself to see how excited each of you were to receive a "future gift" as opposed to things on Christmas morning.
It's in your best interest to cheer for your original home town team (or your middle home town)--the Sonics are really good this year! :)
xoxo

Hands down the best concert I've ever been to, Sting. We had 2nd row, center state tix to that concert too. Sting is pure perfection on the stage. I'm dying to see him in concert again. Nothing can come close. Enjoy the hoops and the Sting show.

I too saw Sting with Lyle Lovett. They did a duet "I'm so happy I can't stop crying" love that song! Can that concert really have been over 7 years ago?! Had to be- it was pre kids for me, yikes. My husband did surprise me recently with a night out sans kiddos- a trip to an awesome brew pub and then to see Jewel.
Enjoy yourself!

First Clapton and now Sting?? {sigh} I pretty much hate you by now! ;) My only solace is that we're seeing U2 in Phoenix the following weekend.
Have fun, both events! I think it's a wonderful idea!

Not that i really follow b-ball anymore, but at one time, and for many years, i was a hardcore Sonics fan. I remember watching in 1978, they were in the NBA finals. Of course, back then, they didn't call it the NBA Finals. I was 12. I think they lost, and so began my education in how all major Seattle sports franchises would break your heart every chance they got.
sigh.
But hey, have fun!
And i too once loved sting. Ever see the movie "Brimstone and Treacle"? Man, was he HOT in that film. Creepy...but hot.

Oh, just green with envy here. The last time I saw him was in college...many, many years ago! What a cool idea for gifts though, I'll have to remember that one.

Enjoy you Christmas!
We too gave each other event gifts this year (although not events we'll get to go to together) - we gave my husband, father and two brother a day of sea fishing (which they still need to plan) and I got a day at a beauty spa) So excited to receive a gift but then look forward and experience it weeks/months later.
