The power of words.

Love to start my day reading blogs, checking in at Two Peas, reading email, drinking my coffee. This morning I read Leslie's post and just felt this overwhelming excitement for her and her decision to stay at home because I knew that what was she really wanted. Leslie is so cool. She has a smile that goes on for miles. I am just so proud of you for following your heart Les.
And the dice today say, live fearlessly.
When I picked up my first scrapbook magazine in November 2002 I was drawn to a page (or two at least) of this woman named Leslie Lightfoot. She is so awesome, I thought to myself. She has great style. Wow.
And so I started on my own journey. Creating pages. Posting on Two Peas. Checking out the Garden and buying all the magazines. And then, on January 23, 2003 I received an email...an email from Leslie Lightfoot. Yep, still have it - she wrote:
I remember the feeling that gave me. The smile on my face. The filling up of my heart. OMG Leslie Lightfoot emailed me. I called Chris over to the computer and made him read it too - he knew her from me talking about how much I enjoyed her pages. I was just so dang excited. And I have never forgotten that feeling.
So thanks Leslie, for taking the time to reach out to me a few years back. For giving me a boost. For your words. For filling me up. I am so glad we have become friends and had a chance to connect in person. I am so excited for you and proud of you for following your heart.

Ali, I've had the crappiest of days and have been so down, and yet I come here to do my evening blog reading (I read in the evening after my kids are in bed) and the way you just celebrated with your friend was uplifting to me. I only know Leslie by name from 2 Peas and the mags and she is one talented gal. "Here here" for Leslie and following her dream and "here here" to you for being such a great friend to her. At the end of a very troubling and exhausting day, the sentiment of this post alone made me smile.

Just had to post- that is so freakin' cool. I must say that is the exact same way I felt when I got an email from YOU. I had to tell my husband- who knows who you are from the book sitting on my nightstand. What comes around goes around my friend.

Ali,
It is so fun to hear that your beginnings in the scrapbook world are so much like what we have all experienced! You can't imagine how excited I was the other day when I checked my e-mail and there in my inbox was an e-mail from "Ali Edwards." I flipped! Called my dh and tried to explain that a celebrity had just personally e-mailed me! Wow, as Leslie was for Ali, Ali was for Angie! Thanks for sharing.

Congrats to Leslie for being brave and bold enough to follow her heart and congrats to you Ali, for celebrating the joy of friendship and the power of words. So many times we go thru our day not taking the time to praise those around us that we find inspiring, when if we just took the time, we could possibly make a difference in that person's day...perhaps even their life.
I will also add that I was as equally thrilled when checking my own email and seeing "Ali Edwards" in my inbox! Thank you for taking the time to share the power of words! Good Karma girl! It's all around you!

First, isn't Leslie just the best. Meeting her in person and it was instantly like I've known her for years. And that talent, and those photos and those beautiful kids. She blows me away every day. That sun page in DWFabric is one of my all time fav SB pages.
It is so cool to hear about that email from Leslie. How we all have had these parallel experiences. I know that I have certainly saved many from you. One particular stands out in my mind. It said...Call me. :) One of my coolest days ever.

I think we can all agree that we have all clicked the save button on your emails! I still have the one you emailed me...and boy do I truly feel special! :0)
There is something so powerful and wonderful about getting an email from someone that we admire and share some of the same interests with. I definitely save all the emails that come from scrappin' friends.

omg ali. reading these words from you made me tear up. you know i admire you so much. you have made such a huge impact on the way i look at scrapbooking and life, etc.... the fact that you remember that i emailed you and actually saved it blows me away.
i will have to remember this email when i am feeling down on myself and my style - the fact that you've ever drawn inspiration from me is such a huge compliment.
i wish we lived closer - we could totally hang and enjoy life. you are ultra-cool and i just love being around you.wish we could do it more :(
anyhow. you are the sweetest woman for being excited for me. i know you and all the GG's have been on this journey with me over the past few years. you were all there when i had to return to work after having chloe... crying and sad. you know what this means to me - to be able to try this on and give it my all. i cherish your and all the GGs friendship. you are my sounding board and you all know me WELL.

A,
Love this blog and all the ideas that are exchanged! I still have the e-mail you first sent me too. It was so cool that my words on the radio had reached you before we started e-mailing--always amazed by those connections. I am reminded here too that my words, stories and voice do touch others. Love that power of words.

It puts a big ol' grin on my face to see that this feeling is universal. When you left praise on one of my layouts, I thought I had died and gone to heaven. When you e-mailed me, I rushed to tell my dh in shock. Knowing you've felt the same about another great artist makes me smile. :-)

What a great, uplifting post. It made me smile, too...thinking of the emails I've gotten from people who've had an impact on who I am as a scrapbooker. People who are every bit as cool in real life, and who I consider friends now, too. It's a testament to me that we truly don't always realize the power of our words to others....and what a positive impact they can have on someone.
Congratulations to Leslie on her decision to stay home, too. I've been a SAHM for the last 12 years, and I feel very blessed to have been able to be here. I wish her the same blessings.
