40 Developmental Assets.
Tags:Last week a really smart lady named Karen sent me an email of support about Simon. In her email she included a link to the Search Institute's 40 Developmental Assests. It is quite a positive resource, including a great page about how everyone can build assets and make a difference in the lives of kids. Cool, practical stuff to keep in mind.
I felt like it was a good reminder to me about my role as a parent. And I like lists. Something to print out and hang up as a reminder of simple things that can be done to help Simon as he grows.
And hey Cath - the Search Institute is in Minneapolis. That place is rockin.
Thanks Karen!

Very cool list. How awesome that she shared it! You know I don't really like writing lists myself, but I like all information presented to me in list format. I will print this one off!

Thanks for the link Ali! Very cool site, I printed 2 of the lists, one for each age category based on my boys' ages. They will be very helpful. Have a great day!

Hi Ali!
I just wanted you to know that you inspired me to start my own blog. I learned a lot from you at CKU and it inspired me to start writing again! Hence my blog here on typepad...I just started it and I am still figuring it out!

It must be a sign because this morning I recieved the same list from my son's preschool. :) #6 (for preschoolers) is my personal goal for the week. I'm going to volunteer and spend some time actually watching, and supporting, my little man "at work." :)

Thanks for the heads up, a good list for everyone. Now for something totally unrelated, did you finish reading, "Reading Lolita in Tehran?" Just want to know what you thought of it. My bookclub is thinking of picking it for our next read. Thanks!

Ali, I'm excited to see someone mention the 40 assets. I spent about 3 years writing about them (in between crime stories.. lol) for the local paper after communities in our area started up programs to encourage asset building.
Interesting stuff! Wish more people know about them.
