And Saturday becomes Sunday...

Simon at work. On Monday we will finally have our meeting with the Regional Autism evaluator, Simon's benefit coordinator and one of his speech therapists to talk about what supports he will receive - and their recommendations for additional services. A long time coming. I am so thankful that over this waiting period we have seen marked improvements in his language development. He is using verbal communication so much more over the past few months than ever before. I am still getting comments from teacher's at his school that they "just don't think he is autistic, rather simply delayed."
Well, whatever it is, let's get on with it and get him the help he needs - including social help in his classroom.
He has been cracking us up today more than ever. Chris even started choking once tonight after Simon had a spontaneous "awesome" response after Chris and I had said something was "cool." It is tough to get much better than that around here. Hilarious. Hard to imagine we could get so hyped up over things like this...but, this is it.
Been working all day on a CK project. Flying to Salt Lake Monday night for meetings on Tuesday and then home late Tuesday night. Before I leave I have BUNCHES of layouts to get done. And when I come back there will be even more to do. It is power scrapping time. Or as I have lovingly called it in the past: psycho scrapping. When it gets to this point I have to just run on auto-.jpglot. Stopping to think much can be disasterous. Back to work.

Ali, I took a nap this afternoon and actually had a dream that I met you and Simon and Connor played together. LOL! The stories you tell about Simon remind me so much of my Connor, speech delay and all. Here's hoping he gets whatever help he needs.

OK, finally have to admit I'm lurking...Logged on to check in with you and see if I could get inspired to scrap again, but now I know that cosmic forces pulled me to your site so I could read about Simon...I won't assume to know his special situation, but your story is so like our story. All the way down to the matchbox car that took on MONSTER proportions. (It was a schoolbus, of all things--we lost it once, and when we finally found a replacement, we STOCKED UP!) We’ve been through a lot with him, and all I have to say about it now is that we have a bright, handsome super smart socially well adjusted but still quiet 16 year old. I feel your trepidation; know that I send great positive vibes to you, and Chris, and especially to Simon. & I can't help but add that you once emailed me (when we lived in Bend) about a 2peas LO...It's one of my "smile memories." Your artistry is a gift to me.

Wishing you all the best with your meeting regarding Simon...you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. I sent you an email a week or two ago about my nephew who is almost five who was diagnosed with "extreme" autism when he was 18 months old. Gluten and casein were eliminated from his diet with profound results...he's starting "regular" kindergarten this fall. I forgot to mention that although he is delayed, his doctor's now think that maybe he just has severe allergies to gluten and casein (versus "extreme" autism) and as their toxins continue to be eliminated from his body he will continue to improve.
Hope the psycho scrapping is going well...wish I was scrapping but instead I'm burning the midnight oil trying to get a catalog ready for proofing on Monday. Reading your blog is the perfect late night break! Thanks!

So glad you are finally having the meetings for Simon. I wish you all the best with that.
I love how you talked about the "funny moment." They are the best aren't they? We have them quite frequently here with our 4 year old. She is the regular comedian here at our house.
Keep power scrapping, I can't wait to see the results!

I'm convinced that the very worst part of any stressful situation is the waiting... so glad that it is coming to an end for you and Chris and Simon. Good luck on Monday... you will be in the thoughts and prayers of all of us who enjoy your blog and your work! Now... get back to work! :-) Safe travels...

I hope Simon's evaluations go well for you-I'm only at the beginning stages of this tedious process with my Eddie. We don't even meet the developmental pediatrician until July-the earliest appointment we could wrangle.
Good luck with the power scrapping-I've got to kick start myself out of a dratted case of scrapper's block.

Go Simon dude. Thats great progress Ali...but you know what i have said before ..with a mom like you, no matter what the diagnosis, he will do just fine.
And on the scrapping front, I love hearing that you are so busy, that just means more treats for all of us. Rock on woman.

That's great news about Simon! How nice it must feel to finally be getting som ehelp. We are still doing the waiting game on our son (Developmental delays). It is amazing how under staffed and under budgeted the facilities to help are! He will likely be three before we get the help we need, and at that point we switch from the state to the school system, and start all over again. There are days I think he will be in high school before we deal with some of his delays.
I wish i could scrap on auto pilot! Everything has to be just so for me. The LOs that pop out in less than an hour are few and far between!

So glad Simon's meetings are HERE! Hope all goes well.
You go power scrapper! I can't wait to see what all you dream up :)
You should totally do an "out-take" project. Things that didn't, for whatever reason, make it to publication. It would be cool to see the evolution of a project.
Just a thought for a less hectic time :)Have a great week!

ali...i too had a situation very similar to yours. i finally had my dd seen by a specialist because, like you I wanted her to get all the help she needed. i didn't want to be in denial. it turns out they didn't think she was autistic, but i continued to watch and observe. it is a funny thing that 2 years later she is a very smart very happy very social little girl. now she is not the most social kid but in preschool (2nd year) she has made a lot of good friends and acts like a normal 5 year old. she even plays the violin. perhaps children with gifts act in different ways...my daughter i believe has a photographic memory. she could site books and movies after only one time through. perhaps simon situation is similar...it sure sounds like ti so far.
the most important thing (as you know) is simon. good luck!
