"The Summer Day"

Tags:

I don't know exactly what a prayer is.
I do know how to pay attention, how to fall down
into the grass, how to kneel down in the grass,
how to be idle and blessed, how to stroll through the fields,
which is what I have been doing all day.
Tell me, what else should I have done?
Doesn't everything die at last, and too soon?
Tell me, what is it you plan to do
with your one wild and precious life?

-Mary Oliver from "The Summer Day"

Found this one in an Oprah magazine from May while I was working out. Trying to rid myself of the tiredness I have been overcome with lately. Lots on my plate. I love that last line, "Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?"

What is my plan? Where am I going? Some days I think I know precisely and on other days it is such a mystery. Questions. Unanswered questions. I feel like I am constantly reevaluating myself and my life, but never really getting to a concrete place of understanding. Maybe it is easier to be in that place of unknownness. Or maybe it is just part of the journey. I just don't want to get caught up in overanalyzing and listing and questioning and forget the part about just living, about being alive.

My one wild and precious life.Take action. Be alive. Risk. Laugh more. Stop the grump. Breathe more fresh air. Fresh. All kinds of goodness.

Maybe I need a BIG sign. Or maybe just a little reminder. A token. Something that is just for me to remember to be alive.

So yea, I know I have talked about all this before. But I needed the reminder today. And the chance to delve into it just a bit more.
