Tags:The trees were in full color in Sunriver this weekend. Everytime I go there I dream about a day when we could have a place there...a getaway. I also had a fantasy of being able to stay there while writing a book. A quiet retreat. Maybe someday...
Seriously had an amazing experience at the Oregon Summit this weekend. I am thinking that this blog is probably not the place to talk much about politics, but it looks as if it is going to become a big part of our lives around here for the time being.
Chris has decided to run for the District 14 seat for the Oregon House of Representatives. We attended the Summit weekend for the chance to connect with other Democrats, including many state leaders. It was so, so cool. Chris was excited and I was excited.
One of the things that really hit me was a reminder of why I fell in love with Chris ten years ago. He likes to be involved. He cares about what is happening and likes to take a leading role. We were both involved in student leadership stuff in both high school and college. It was something we connected on...something we could discuss...something that got both of us fired up. Loved seeing that part of him, and in a lot of ways that part of me, again.
I am sure it will be an interesting ride. Crazy. And a lot of work. And man it is awesome to see him feeling that passion bubbling up inside of him again.

That's great Ali. Best of luck to Chris. I know that's what I love about my Poli Sci guy. He is always keen to tune into anything dealing with politics and he has helped with his local canidate during the campaining sessions. Dedication to making a change and being involved...what a great thing.

Ali: Running for office is GREAT! I am a democratic campaign organizer and lobbyist by trade. I've worked on all sorts of races and legislative offices here in Connecticut. I would be so very happy to help you with anything you may need or want. I have so much information about campaign organization that I can email you such as phone scripts, door to door info blah blah blah. Congrats on making this great choice to run. I hope I can be of some help!

Ditto what Lisa V. said! I realized in this past election that there are no two ways about it - I am a Democrat to my core. I live in Florida and in the south, you are surrounded by the other team. But I spent the first 20 years of my life in the Northwest - Spokane, WA to be exact, so my roots are seeped in liberal ideals. Best of luck to Chris! That is very exciting. So great for both of you to be doing something you believe in and are so passionate about. :)

Oh, I would SO help with the campaigning if I lived in Oregon!! (I'm another rare Dem, I guess!) My husband's family has always been active in local politics, and I'm intrigued and inspired by those who put themselves out there and run for public office!! Go, Chris!! (He does have a fabulous name for a politician, no??)

Go Chris! I admire people who are brave enough to stand up for what they believe, and try to make a difference in this country. And, you can talk Democratic politics all day with me as well. :-)

Always glad to find other passionate Democrats! I was a member lobbyist for 20 years for FEA/NEA so was around that whole scene for many years and loved it. Good luck to your husband and to you as I know what it takes to commit to something like that.

I am so excited to follow this new adventure. I am a fellow artist, very involved in caring about the decisions made by our leaders. From what I know of you on this blog you are the kind of people I want at the helm. Good luck to both of you.
