Doodles & Frames & Doctors.
Tags:Just wanted to give you another look at some fonts on the new CD. These are CK Ali Doodles & CK Frames. Fun stuff.
Been working on assignments today intermixed with setting up another evaluation for Simon. One of the recommendations from his original diagnosis was a re-eval after 12 months. Can't believe it has been even longer than that - amazing how fast time goes even when it sometimes feel like things are taking forever. Even setting up this appointment requires a referral (another phone call) from his primary doctor - and this is all just to schedule the appointment. It will be so interesting to see what the doctors have to say this time around.
We are getting ready to make some changes to Simon's schedule. Feeling like he needs more one on one interaction, something just a bit more that will have him working on the sensory things that he seems to be struggling with. Talking about our options. It is challenging. Our (Chris' and my) schedules are challenging. We know what we need to do. We just need to do it.
It was really interesting to meet with our educational autism specialist yesterday. She is so practical and right on and it is just awesome to have someone else that has observed him give us their input on what direction we should head with him (without telling us what to do). Her word: balance. You know I love that. So that is what we are looking for - balance between letting him be a kid and helping him be successful in this world that he just doesn't get at times (and you know what? I don't get it half the time either).
So change is good right? Remind this in a couple days please...

change is tough, but change is good... you learn, grow and most of the time become wiser. :-)

Of course change is good and even though it might not seem like it at times with Simon, it will be for the better. Every day is a learning experience and we choose what it is that we want to take from each day and grow with it. You two are good parents!

Changing schedules can be tricky at first. You may have to tweak the changes a few times until you get what clicks for your family. Hang in there, you'll get it down!

Hey, Ali!
I have a 4 year old nephew with Autism, and I know how discouraging it can be sometimes...but I also know that there are moments that are completely amazing and remind you how very special these little guys are. :) Good luck with his schedule changes, you guys can do it! Just remind yourself that you are doing what's right for him, and you're awesome parents. 'K? :)
Have a happy day!

Ali, I truly believe that if we have concern and love as our base for decisions we can not make wrong one. Both you and Chris think with your mind and your hearts. Whatever changes you make for Simon will be exactly what he needs...because the three of you have a special connection. You will know what to do. Simon is such a wonderful gift. A beautiful child.

Although the change and the transition period can be difficult, especially for little guys like ours, it is a good thing. Everyday there is something new to learn about the autism spectrum. It can be overwhelming. You are doing an absoluely wonderful job raising your special boy. He is so blessed to have you as you are to have him!
Cheers!

My aa sponsor had always stressed to me that things done from a place of love can not be wrong. You & Chris love Simon so much, and I believe you have very good instincts about him. You will try some stuff - some of it will work and some of it won't. And THAT'S balance, in another form. And it is all coming from love, so even what doesn't work will work, if you get me.
You are so far ahead of the curve, addressing this as early in his life as you are.
And I so hear you about the knowing what to do and doing it. We lead hectic lives and sometimes we just can't be everything we wish we could be (yup, sorry about that but it's true...). And sometimes 'good enough' is good enough.
Love may not conquer all, but there is nothing that even comes close to it. And remember - it is ok.
And change is good....

Yes, change is good; it just takes time. Everyone will grow with it and before long it will be routine.
I wanted to say that I can't believe how big Simon is getting. He is turning into a little man, instead of a little boy. He looks like he is getting taller.. They grow so fast.. Thinking of you and sending hugs your way and Simon's.. :) You and Chris are great parents. Thanks for letting us into your world and daily struggles. You are such an inspiration. :)

Oh Ali, how cute!
Love the new CD. I had my b-day this week, so
I am so getting one for myself :)
And as for change...
The decision is made with your parental love, right?
How could it be wrong then?
Hope everything will turn out great, Ali!

Hey Ali, I can relate to your concerns. I have a little guy who just turned 3 who was diagnosed with a sensory disorder. He is making great progress with occupational therapy. When he goes to the sensory gym he calls it "coley's gym" and gets so excited, he is happy to leave me at the door. It is a delight to watch. Good luck with Simon, he is blessed to have you.
