On my way
Tags:to Crop Paper Scissors in Waco, Texas today. Sitting here in the Denver airport waiting for my connecting flight. Enjoying a bit of quiet time. Airports are where I get to check my to-do lists, reorganize, figure out my focus for the next few weeks.
It is getting tougher to leave home. Simon is talking so much more - and not just talking, but communicating. Asking questions. He had a great first day back to school yesterday - he ran up the ramp to the classroom, arms in the air yelling "woo hoo." So cool.
He also had changes in his afternoon school - a new classroom with some older kids and new teachers. I was so impressed with his lead teacher when I went to pick him up yesterday - she was totally on top of everything. I was able to peek into the room and see all the kids sitting in a group - Simon sitting next to the teacher (and staying in his chair) - she was having them get in line to go outside based on if they had an "a" in their name. I was able to watch for a couple minutes before he saw me and came running - he was so happy. I hung out for a bit and chatted with the teacher while he played outside - the teacher said he did great. I think we were both holding our breath a bit on how it would all go.
We walked out to the car and the first thing he said, "watch Toy Story." And so we did.

I know it's hard to send Simon to school for the new year, hoping he will be okay with the changes. It sounds like he did wonderfully on his first day. My sister has the same worries with her son. I'm so glad he is communicating more with you. That is a huge milestone and an exciting one at that. http://jolenegeorge.blogspot.com/

I'm a big fan of downtime in the airports! Even with the hustle and bustle, it's a great quiet space to refocus and organize. (Not to mention the fantastic people-watching!)

Big hugs to Simon for a wonderful first day of school! It's so hard for us to watch our little men as they practice more and more independence, but also such a blessing. Each day will get easier and easier, but it sounds like he'll do wonderfully! Kudos to you, Mr. Simon!!

Ali,
This is off the subject but...I just saw at the very end of your blog the copyright thingy. I used an excerpt from your blog about excess...While credit was given, I hope it didn't infringe on your copyright! SO SO sorry if it did!

I am so glad he is doing so well and making such strides. It is almost as if a little light bulb went off in his head. As a parent it is so exciting to observe such great progress in our children. You are doing such a great job with him and have obviously made the right choices in his education. Simon rocks!@!

Can't wait to meet/see you in Waco on Saturday. Have a safe trip. Seeing your kids in their school environment is amazing. It's their world. It's their teachers. It's their friends.
