Saturday.
Had a chance to go to our favorite park (River Park) on Thursday with my friends Emily and Tricia. Lots of boys in green (and one little baby girl for good measure). Simon went crazy in all the water. We could all feel those whispers of fall in the air - not long now.
Simon starts school again this next week. Lots of changes for him - a new building (same teachers that we love), and a new classroom in the afternoon. Should be a week full of all kinds of challenges and goodness. Looking forward to getting him back into a regular schedule.
He has really progressed this summer - emotionally, verbally, and physically. Watching him run the other day was a reminder to me of how he is growing - he looks stronger and more in control of his body. I am excited to see how his teachers respond and how he does back in the classroom. So many cool things ahead for him.
Last night we all went over to Micheal's to pick up some foam brushes for classes next weekend. I grabbed a copy of Sommerset Studio for a bit of artistic inspiration. So different from what I do most of the time, but man there is so much cool stuff in there. I especially loved reading the articles - lots of words to inspire (love reading about other artist's processes). The editor's note was especially interesting and inspiring. Made me want to get out my copies of True Colors and Designing with Texture and go through them again. I also want to go through Sabrina's books again - each time I find something completely new and inspiring all over again.
So here's to the birth of fall and whatever creative endeavor you are undertaking today.
i love that magazine too, haven't gotten the new one yet, i'll have to check it out.

Somerset Studio is one of the chosen few magazines that I subscribe to. Super inspiring. I've recently discovered Cloth Paper Scissors (www.clothpaperscissors.com) put out by Quilting Arts. It has wonderful, unusual but doable art. Good projects to help use up all the clutter/excess scrap stuff. Enjoy!

Simon is totally loving the water. I'm sure he will thrive this year in school and grow by leaps and bounds.

Love how your posts always remind me about how "circular" all our lives really are. I was looking at my big guy (18, not 4)just the other day, and noticing how since his last growth spurt ( the last one??) he is finally getting control over his body too...funny how it's still happening after all these years; I remember having the same thoughts you are now when he was only four...and you will still be thinking the same thing when Simon is 18!! I have come to believe in this life that there really are only a finite number of "issues" that humankind faces; and what we bring to them, and what we get out of them we all have to power to teach one another. Thanks for doing your part so eloquently!

that park looks like fun. We had one here in Brisbane, Aus. but due to no significant amount rain in over a year and a half, it isn't open at the moment. It will be sad this summer not to have it.

Ali,
I am coming out of lurking to let you know I love reading your blog. I have fallen in love with Simon. I voted for Chris to get the campaign money. But most of all I just enjoy how you remind me of the simple things in life to be thankful for with our kids. I don't know if you are familiar with Mighty Max http://www.maxupdate.blogspot.com/ He is another precious child who I love to read about. Prayers and hugs to you and your family.
