Just taking a minute to post from here in the Poconos of Pennsylvania - I am having such a wonderful time. There are over 200 women cropping here this weekend from all over the place. Three classes down, three to go tomorrow.

And guess what?

These women are raising a TON of money for autism in honor of Simon's 5th birthday on Sunday. They have a couple raffles and a big a silent auction (with absolutely beautiful art pieces designed by a bunch of women here). It is an amazing group effort. So, so cool. Tomorrow night we will know the total grand total amount. It is going to be BIG.

I am awed and inspired and humbled and touched by the generosity. So many people are impacted by autism in one way or another...speaking with a variety of different women here this weekend I am reminded once again of the craziness of it all, and the connectedness. I am also reminded - through so many different stories - how amazing these kids are - how I can't imagine my life without Simon. How he teaches me everyday. And that he is the reason I started scrapbooking and one of the main reasons why I continue.

Rollie - if/when you read this - you are one fantastic, amazing woman (even if you did keep me up until 2am). I am so glad that I met you last year and so completely blessed that you invted me to teach at your event. Thank you for wanting to do something that is so GOOD and for challening others to do the same.

Happy Birthday Simon! It's two friends at work and my birthday on Sunday too. And as you know it's Sage's birthday too. (And Stonewall Jackson's-hero of the south.)
What a great the idea they had to help the cause of autism!
Enjoy the Poconos. It is a beautiful part of PA and NY.
Warning enabler-Joanne has some great cloth baskets and the biggest one is embroidered with "Stuff"-1/2 off.

always so wonderful to read about things like this. in a time when the news seems to portray nothing but how horrible people are, it's good to see solid evidence that goodness still exists.

I worked with a lady who was still waiting for her son to be statmented for his autism. She went through a tough time through all the interviews just so she can get him the help he needs. He is so far ahead of his peers with his learning & he is frustrated.
Happy 5th birthday, Simon. I love to see the photos of him in your book. He has grown up right in front of me!

Ali, You're giving me such hope. My younger son was diagnosed with ADD yesterday. I know it's not the same as autism, but I'm struggling to cope with this learning disability. Aaron is 13--a fabulous child, energetic--so much personality, but he struggles in school. I have so much to learn (even though I am a teacher myself--you'd think I'd be an "expert" on this because of the number of children I've taught with ADD). Keep telling Simon's story and yours. It's so encouraging to me.

Wished I could be there on that event... A nice thing will be that once I live in the States, I might be able to do more stuff like this.
Right now, the flying prices from UK to USA are humongous...
How nice that a scrapbook event can turn into something good for a good cause.
Why do they make such a fuss about splitting up the jabs... If there is any doubt about the jabs causing autism, they should be stopped.
But I need to get of my horse, this is an art blog!
