Just love the Simon posts! Reminds me how similar all kids really are-- as my 3yo is hanging out the grandparents' front door watching for *their* garbage truck ;)

Simon comment about garbage trucks made me smile. My four year old told me I was a good fixer when I found the missing sock.
He also loves Hummers.
Digging your posts, thanks for sharing Ali!

What IS it about garbage trucks? Even my 3 y.o. daughter loves them! Love that innocent perspective, still too young to associate smell with something that just lOOks cool!

I love that you are documenting all the things Simon is saying and love that he's so verbal now! Thanks for making me smile this morning as I take a break from cleaning out my closet before the garbage truck comes down OUR street tomorrow!

Sounds like my newphew Andrew....he asked Santa for three things and the Garbage truck was one of them. (other two being a hippo and a dinosaur)
Santa found a green gargabge truck from little tykes , the back door even opens and alot of wrapping paper and bows can be shoved into the receptical. Might be a neat birthday gift for Simon.

That's too cute story! I can relate....My boy is into all that too. Right now his latest is obsessing over a burned out light bulb in his bathroom. We didn't have a replacement bulb...so he keeps telling us to go to target.~hee~

Ali - just be glad he isn't like my husband who at 5yo climbed in the Garbage truck took the keys and threw them in the trash recepticle part of the truck.
Happy New Year to You, Chris and Simon!

awwwww Ali, that just makes me smile so big...I remember when Drewie was little and how "Garbage day" was such a big deal...he would stand at the window with his little nose pressed tight against the glass watching every move.
Then by 5 years old he changed his love from the garbage truck to the ice cream truck...smart boy! haha
Merry Christmas my friend! Happy 2007!!

When my son was little (now 22 and a US Marine) he would tell everyone that he wanted to be a garbage truck driver when he grew up. And he told me just a few months ago that he wants to drive one even more now because they have the arms that lift the cans up (like a robot). They never really grow up all the way you know ... thank goodness.

Ali, Can I say my hats are off to you. I am amazed at this realization that has overtaken you in the course of these last few months. Your ability to captured "life" and the "littlest of things" makes me yearn for something better. Your simplicity makes my heart skip and my soul ache all in the quest to find my own way towards simplicity in this crazy world. I value what you do and I thank you for sharing it on your blog. You are an inspiration to me. Keep it up!!!

Love that Simon is talking so much! Your post brought happy memories to me. I worked as a teacher's aide in 4 year old kindergarten until about 2 years ago. The 3 year old class had recess at the same time as our class. The highlight of the week was the day the trash truck came. Our playground was in the back of the school with perfect view of the truck coming and going.
The second the children heard the truck coming, they would shreik with delight & run to the back fence to watch with much excitement as the dumpster was loaded and emptied onto the truck.
Then, as the truck would leave, they would give the hand signal for "honk" and when the fun guy was driving, he would honk a few times. Squeals and screams would ensue & many of the kids would jump for joy.
It always made my day to see them delight in the little things. Kind of gives a new perspective.
Thanks for sharing the little things with us!
hugs!
Tautchia
