Snow Globes.
Tags:One of the things we really wanted Simon to have this year was a snow globe. He sees things on videos (this idea and love for snow globes came from the Wonder Pets - a fabulously random little show on Nick Jr.), talks about them and repeats the story over and over, and then we make them come to life.
We put Chris' parents on the quest to find a snow globe for Simon and they did GREAT. He loves it. Big time love...right up there with the Mickey phone...both of which are currently sitting on his bedside table.
This was Simon's first Christmas that he grasped the idea of Santa - that he was going to come in the night, right down the chimney into our living room, and leave presents. Over the last few weeks he has been giddy with excitement and anticipation - what a joy to witness that from this side of the fence. I think Christmas is almost more fun as an adult with a child who is INTO the holiday and the idea of magic (all goes back to being able to hear the sleigh bells - watch Polar Express if you don't know what I am talking about).
I went back and read my blog entry from a year ago: December 26, 2005. Perspective is a cool thing. Writing things down is a cool thing. Reading about that drink I was liking last year will inspire a trip to the grocery later today (after more boxes are opened and stuff put away).
Also planning to get creative today. One positive thing about moving is that all my scrap stuff becomes new again - it is not in the same old location. I am seeing things with fresh eyes - something that is so important in the creative process.
Happy Tuesday.

My two-year-old niece watches Wonder Pets every day and was crazy about snow globes this year, too! Her mom bought her one that is only about two inches tall and has a snowman inside. I'm pretty sure that was her favorite Christmas gift this year. And it was awesome to see her so excited by the simplest thing.

Fun Snow Globe Art Project.
In my niece's kindergarten class, they made snow globes using a baby food jar, some kind of toy that would fit in the jar, glitter, water and a glue gun.
Fill the top with water and glitter, glue the toy to the inside of the jar top and glue gun the top onto the jar, dry, then flip over and voila - custom snow globe.
See you in Feb at Youngplay in Tracy!

Hi Ali,
It is nice to reflect. I read your post from a year ago and I saw that you bought a collage from Navy Lane. How beautiful to see my stamp designs used in her lovely artwork. Fun to discover that and to know that some of my imagery is in your home. Happy New Year!
Love,
Christine

Hi Ali,
I've been trying to collect Christmas snowglobes for years now but unfortunately my family can't seem to remember that. My husband occasionally remembers and always finds nice ones at Eddie Bauer of all places. I know what you mean about looking back at the Blog entries. I started a blog this summer and I love being able to go back and read my posts. It helps me remember things I would otherwise forget and it's great when I want to journal.

Ah, the Wonder Pets save the Reindeer...we have seen that at least 20x at our house. I had to smile at the picture of you and Simon w/ the snow globe. I bought my daughter Zoë one as well but it is a little Starbucks mug w/ a globe on top. (I thought you would appreciate that). ;)

Isn't it wonderful how little ones see so much magic in something as simple as a snow globe. My son Alex (4 1/2) wanted one this year and just gasped and flipped over the one grandma got him :) Have a great day.

The 'Wonder Pets' are awesome. My daughter likes to sing their theme song and will frequently say, "Let's do it like teamwork! Like the Wonder Pets!" So sweet. :)
And your are so right - Christmas is spectacular with a child that is into the magic and spirit of the season. This year was amazing and I know that it will be hard to top this year. My son is 2 and my daughter 4... it was truly the most magical Christmas I've ever experienced. :)
