Just taking a minute to post from here in the Poconos of Pennsylvania - I am having such a wonderful time. There are over 200 women cropping here this weekend from all over the place. Three classes down, three to go tomorrow.
And guess what?
These women are raising a TON of money for autism in honor of Simon's 5th birthday on Sunday. They have a couple raffles and a big a silent auction (with absolutely beautiful art pieces designed by a bunch of women here). It is an amazing group effort. So, so cool. Tomorrow night we will know the total grand total amount. It is going to be BIG.
I am awed and inspired and humbled and touched by the generosity. So many people are impacted by autism in one way or another...speaking with a variety of different women here this weekend I am reminded once again of the craziness of it all, and the connectedness. I am also reminded - through so many different stories - how amazing these kids are - how I can't imagine my life without Simon. How he teaches me everyday. And that he is the reason I started scrapbooking and one of the main reasons why I continue.
Rollie - if/when you read this - you are one fantastic, amazing woman (even if you did keep me up until 2am). I am so glad that I met you last year and so completely blessed that you invted me to teach at your event. Thank you for wanting to do something that is so GOOD and for challening others to do the same.

Hi there, Melinda form Australia here, just wantd to say hello and thanks for inspiring me. I simply loved your letter album so used your idea to come up with my own to hold letters that I have been sent from grandparents, family members friends etc. And tell your little boy that I send him 5 special birthday wishes. Hope his day was extra special.

I was at Split Rock this weekend and it was fantastic. I, too, was blown away by the women and their wonderful talent and generosity.
I also wanted to say that I am very inspired by you, not just as a scrapbooker, but as a mother. I have a son who has Nonverbal Learning Disorder (a disorder that resembles Aspergers' in almost every way.) He is 16 and I know how tough the road is for the children with these conditions, and also the mothers who love them so deeply. I also know how rewarding that road is and how wonderful our children are and how blessed we are to have them in our lives.
You are a great mom, Ali, and it's wonderful to see you celebrate Simon's life and the impact he has had on so many people. Simon, you're a cool kid!
