The AEzine...
Tags:will be coming later today. Having an issue with the email program I use and I am getting ready to get on a plane heading East - need to make a call to customer service a bit later this morning.
In the mean time, start thinking about essentials.
And, another update, the weather did not cooperate yesterday so the reception with the Governor was postponed until next week.
Happy Wednesday.

Card stock, my camera, computer, chalk ink, and rub-ons make me happiest. I had just started a project two days before the challenge. I think my link will take you to my blog entry dated Jan. 18. Thanks again, Ali, for the inspiration.

Sorry about the reception and it's postponement. Hope the weather cooperates with the new date!
I got my AEzine and am working on my list of essentials for Monday. That's kind of a tough question because I actually have to think! LOL

I hope to make a layout eventually so I can look back years from now and think, 'I thought THAT was essential?!?' I blogged my answers so I at least have them somewhere.

I have been thinking and thinking about my word and I could only come up with the two word "Carpe Diem", but since it's Latin, I thought ir could count as one! Thanks for the Inspiration Peak link, I am always looking for new quotes! They had the perfect quote for my word and for my mantra for 2007. It was something I learned the hard way watching my best friend lose her battle with breast cancer without ever losing her joy in living.

I am loving this "one word" idea! I made another page for my word this month. (I'm doing one word per month)
You can see it at http://scrapbooklady.typepad.com/katie_the_scrapbook_lady/2007/01/random_thoughts.html if you get a minute. :)
Thanks for always being so inspiring!

I am learning what my essentials are the hard way. We are selling our house. So, I packed up all my scrapbooking stuff so we could show the house without my enormous mess in my studio. I went without my scrapbooking stuff for about a month and I couldn't take it anymore. I can't get at the stuff I put in storage, so if I have to have it, I have to go buy it. I get a monthly kit from Scrapgoods, so I get some embellishments and some paper and some cardstock. But I had to out and buy:
-- A black journalling pen
-- Letter stickers
-- Cardstock
-- Scissors
-- Adhesive
-- Computer

Thanks Ali, what an inspiration you are. I have all my scrap stuff packed up while we re-do oour "play room" was having scrap withdrawals & your Essential challenge inspired me to get out my essentials & scrap with them. I made an altered notebook for my garden journal & all I used was:
Patterned & Plain Paper
Trimmer
Glue Stick
Alphabet Stamps
Sand paper
Was really pleased with how it turned out.
My word is Patience!
Thanks for the inspiration.

First off, I have to prelude this posting by saying that I am a newbie-scrappie - I only started scrapbooking about 2 months ago! So my list of “essentials” is fairly short:
1. My laptop
It holds everything from my current photos to my journals to my favourite fonts. I love how it allows me to get creative with my fonts while retaining enough "hands-on" element as I build my scrapbook pages with actual paper, embellishments. The die-cut machines always tempt me but I can't justify purchasing one if I can print fonts from my computer!
I have not explored digital scrapbooking yet but I do not believe that I will ever give up hands-on scrapbooking because I like the 3-dimensional feel of the craft. [Although I am a PhotoShop user, sometimes I just use MS PowerPoint to print out my fonts.]
2. Fiskar 12" Rotary Paper Trimmer
I purchased my Fiskar paper trimmer from Costco about 2 years ago when my daughter was born and I needed to crop my printed photo sheets. Since I started scrapbooking, it has become my most essential tool everytime I sit down to scrapbook.
3. Circle Punches (1-3/4", 1-1/2", 1" | EK Success) + Corner Rounder (Medium | EK Success)
These circle punches, combined with the fonts and icons I have downloaded and printed off of my laptop, has allowed me to make my own individual tags! I find that I tend to gravitate towards straight lines and rounded corners, so the perfect circle accents provide a nice change to the hard-lines on my pages. They are also really versatile: From tags, to cut-out windows, to scalloped edges, and borders, I have really gotten a lot of use out of it.
4. Brads
When I first walked into a craft store for the sole purpose of getting some items to start scrapbooking, I was so overwhelmed! So I picked up a fairly neutral paper stack and some adhesive, and because they were on sale, a small box of brads. (I didn't even think to get a hole-puncher but have since found that an exacto knife works just fine) Since then, I have been using brads in almost all of my layouts and I often turn to them to help adhere the 3-dimensional things I tend to include on my pages.
5. Scrapbooker's Glue
Tonnes of adhesives out there. My bottle of glue has served me sufficiently although I did get a can of V2 vellum adhesive once I discovered vellum!
My aim is to keep my favourite items pared down. I look at some of the layouts scrapbookers post on the amount of paper, stamps, embellishment, or tools they have and I know I can very easily get to that place!

It's taken me forever to figure this one out, but here's my list of Essentials...
Scrapbooking Essentials-
Cardstock-I LOVE Bazzil and use white alot
Black Pen-I REALLY like my ZIG .05 & my Sakura Glaze pens.
Black Ink Pad-I thinkI ink the edges of EVERYTHING!
Mounting Saquares-I use a TON of these for mounting photos. Probably WAY TOO MANY, LOL.
Scissors-I find myself hand cutting alot of things.
My Cutterpede-The ONLY way I will even come CLOSE to getting a nice, straight line most of the time.
My Camera-I would be lost without it. I think it is truly an extension of my body. I THINK via my camera.
Space-Space to spread out & work. Preferablly my owm room.
Paints, brushes & water-I seem to be using paint in one form or another one ALOT of my pages and artwork lately.
The Scrapbook Station (our local sb store here in Pendleton ran by THEE BEST person around, Mama Carla)/Blogs (obviously Ali's, Elsie's http://elsieflannigan.blogspot.com/ & Emily's http://www.embers.typepad.com/e/ are my other DAILY stops)/2 Peas Creating Garden http://twopeasinabucket.kaboose.com/cg.asp/Creating Keepsakes Magazine http://creatingkeepsakes.com/
Sound-I am one of those people that has to have some kind of sound while I work. The sound of QUIET just doesn't work for me. Weather it's the TV (usually on ESPN News or HGTV) or my iTunes I HAVE to have something on.
OK now onto my Life Essentials-
Nature-I LOVE being outside, looking @ the trees & flowers, listening to the birds, looking @ the moon & stars @ night, etc.
A HOME-Now that Jas & I are in our current house I KNOW the difference between having a HOME and a place to live. I cannot believe the difference having a HOME has made to us, our lives and our happiness.
My Art Supplies-I would be LOST without them. They ARE ME! I have been doing some kind of art and/or craft since i was a young child and I just COULD NOT (and WOULD NOT want to) imagine my life without them!
My Animals-As frustrating as they are sometimes I love them. Love cuddling up with them, petting them, etc.
To Be Loved
Happiness
Health-Having gone through my experience with Breast Cancer and watching soo many people I know battle either that or some of the form of cancer or other SERIOUS illness it made me realize how important this is!
Confidence-This is something I have battled with my whole life! I have ALWAYS had a HORRIBLE self-image and self esteem so I know how important this is. Without this soo much of the rest of life is impossible!
Hope-If you don't have hope you are already defeated!
Music-I LOVE listening to music and couldn't imagine the world without it.
Jas-My Best Friend as well as my husband. Even though things haven't always been easy and there are still times I just want to wring his neck I Love him and can't imagine my life without him.
Well, since I've probably taken up just about the entire space Ali has for this thing LOL, I think I had better go. I can't wait for this weeks challenge. I hope everyone has a good week this week. Ali, CONGRATS on the donation & Happy Birthday to Simon.
Take Care & Happy Creating Everyone,
Amy
