Mixing it up.
Tags:Lisa McGarvey (one of my all time favorite artists) has a great explanation and visuals of storing both 8.5x11 and 12x12 layouts (+ other cool stuff like kids art work and enlargements) in the Two Peas Creating Garden this month. If you have been thinking about doing this you have to check out her album.
When I looked at these images my first thought was "this is life art." It is a life book.

thanks so much for posting this link... i am definitely going to try this. i think i'll make one addition, too... pages of journaling that aren't on a layout... just journaling. haven't found a way to incorporate that before, and i think this would really work!
can't wait to bust out of my office today and hit the scrapbooking store!!!!
thanks, as always, ali, for passing along these great ideas!

Wow!
Thanks Ali, for this amazing idea! I'm ready to start experimenting right now with this. It just makes so much sense and will allow for a lot more flexibility in scrapping!

I loved this idea, I saw it on Karen Russel's blog last week and I currently have page protectors and an album on the way to my house now. I'm super excited to have everything in one album and I really love the idea of sticking school work and 8X10 photos in there as well. So creative! Thanks for sharing! Jodee

Ali!
Thanks so much for posting this! Seriously.. I have collected so many "art" and notes and pictures from my kids over the last years, as well as favorite photos. But really had no idea what to do with them. I also scrap different sizes mainly for assignments and just have stacks of layouts laying around not sure where to put them or what to do with them! I love this idea.. and think I may even take it one step further. I love to sometimes just journaling about trips, things my kids said.. etc and don't always have pictures, so I think I just may add journaling pages as well intermixing with layouts, artwork, pictures etc. It almost makes scrapbooking feel easy again! So thanks for posting this link. I know I wouldn't have seen it otherwise. YOU ROCK! hope you are well.. love you lots!

Hello Ali,
When I first saw this I thought "that is the week in a life album", then on closer inspection I "get it". I think this is a great, simple yet outside the box idea. I think I can do this with my already exisiting supplies, if I just keep thinking outside the box!
Thanks for the inspiration.

Ali, THanks for the link to Lisa's article. I loved that idea! I have a boy and a girl and I made them their own special ifrst year album but I am getting tired making two separte albums...so I have a stack of layouts unprotected waiting to be put into their individual albums....well not anymore I have a new system!!!

I tried this recently---tucking some 8.5x11 layouts into my 12x12 album. As a die-hard chronological scrapper transitioning from film to digital photos, I'm in the midst of having to find all my digital shots, make prints & then combine them with my film photos to do my pages. Of course I found some digital pictures I just had to include in some already finished pages, so to solve my problem I just made some smaller 8.5x11 pages, slipped them into 8.5x11 page protectors & was able to tuck them between the already finished 12x12 pages! Love this way to keep my chronological brain happy and use all the pics I want!

TFS. I've already been doing this myself, so it's cool to see someone else on the same wavelength!

Thanks for sharing this Ali! I've been meaning to "mix it up" for some time, but never thought to add artwork and such to the mix. Very cool!

I SO love this idea, and without you, would not have seen it on 2 peas. There is always something new to learn. I keep a few different albums going but would love the flexibility in page size throughout. I am going to make an investment in this system, I truly love it. And it doesnt hurt to see it showcased with Lisa's awesome stuff. Thank you!!

I also scrap different sizes & had the same frustration. I discovered Archiver's Memory System when I could not order the albums Stacy Julian had been using. They come in 12x12 & 8.5x11, with posts or as ring binders. Cloth binding with craft covers. You can also get varied fillers--page protectors w/ivory or black refill pages; & photo pocket pages. I get several different packages & mix as the mood hits. I also use Creative Memories albums & they have "portrait sleeves" in 12x12 & 8.5x11". These have the strap slots & I use the smaller size in my 12x12 albums when I want to include things that size like letters, etc. Use with or without the filler page. How wonderful to have all these options!
