Mixing it up.
Tags:Lisa McGarvey (one of my all time favorite artists) has a great explanation and visuals of storing both 8.5x11 and 12x12 layouts (+ other cool stuff like kids art work and enlargements) in the Two Peas Creating Garden this month. If you have been thinking about doing this you have to check out her album.
When I looked at these images my first thought was "this is life art." It is a life book.

That is TOTALLY the system I use, too. I love that the 8x8, 8.5x11, and 12x12 page protectors all fit the D-Ring binder. I have several binders (one for us, places, stuff we do, etc. -- etc. being a category, heh-heh). Works very well! The best part, I can scrap what I want, how I want (e.g., 8x8 today, 8.5 x 11 tomorrow), when I want.
Seriously, it is a great system!

I met Emily Falconbridge a few weekends ago at Freestyle Downunder and when she told me this little gem when we were talking about what sizes we scrap, "it changed my world too"!!!!!

lisa's album is terrific. i think the variation of her page sizes in one book makes the album very interesting. it does look very unified... thanks for the link ali!

Ali, I started doing this a few months ago after I got the idea from you in one of your newsletters. I love it. Such a simple concept and yet it never occurred to me! I agree...Lisa is such an incredible artist. She has an eye that is unique and really cool. So so talented, and you can feel the love from her layouts. She's one of my alltime favorites too. Thanks for sharing her beautiful album.

This is a brilliant idea! Wow. I'm exclusively a 8.5x11 scrapper and worry about doing a 12x12, as I don't want a whole album of them - THIS is a terrific solution :) Thanks for pointing it out to a newbie 2P'r :)

Where else can you find all of the sheet protecters? Two Peas are all sold out; I have looked in stores and nobody has the 8 1/2 x 11 landscape; do you have any ideas? LOVE THIS CONCEPT ....LOVE, Love and LOVE! Thanks for the quick reminder!

So very cool. Thank you for finding this and sharing it with us. Stacy Julian told us that she mixed her layout sizes in her Library of Memories class but I just could not visualize it working out. Now I can and I can not wait to try it. I especially love the 8X10 photos, I feel the same way about some of my pics. And adding the art work is a fantastic idea, my kids will be thrilled to see their work on display.
Thanks Ali, you always find the neatest stuff.

I've been doing something like this system for a while. I use mostly Creative Memories albums, and their 8-1/2 x 11 portrait pages fit in the 12x12 albums because the strap staples are in the same place. I don't have kids, yet, but am glad someday I'll be able to combine their artwork, certificates, etc in the same manner. I don't really every stray from 8-1/2 x 11 or 12x12, so it has worked really well for me.
And, to the poster who made some sort of sarcastic remark about scrapping out of chronological order and the "time space continuum," perhaps you shouldn't be so judgmental. My mom always taught me "to each his own." Some people (like me) are perfectly content to scrap chronologically and actually prefer it, without it hampering their own personal style at all. There is no need to make those of us who do prefer to scrap chronologically feel bad about it, especially since it seems your point is that your preference for scrapping "out of order" should be respected. Respect is earned - try giving some "to the other side of the fence" and realize that there is plenty of room in the wonderful world of scrapbooking for ALL kinds and methods of style.
