Capture.
Chris came zooming into my studio last night to grab the camera so he could capture this little moment. What he loved was how Simon was sitting on his knees with his toes tucked under - seems like a bigger kid thing to do. Gotta love that Chris is in tune with capturing these awesome everyday little things.
The Oregon House is running at full speed right now as they near their end of session date (June 29th I think). Chris is super busy and I am enjoying watching the floor sessions online through the Oregon Channel - love listening to the antics (that would be the politics) as well as the basic business of the House.
Simon is in his last day of school today until later this summer. We have a family reunion coming up this weekend on the Oregon coast. The whole clan will be there - kilts and all - for golf and playing on the beach and probably some great food and drinks and lots of little kids. I have so many great memories of this event as a kid - it wasn't every year and I think that actually made it even more special. Looking forward especially to seeing my Mom & Dad, my sister Jessica and my sister-in-law Liz & John & Henry. Seriously excited about all the photo opportunities.
For the last couple weeks I have been working on book stuff, playing with Flickr (and being seriously inspired by it for my scrapbook pages), working on developing a new CK KOTM for later this year, playing with beeswax, and just generally taking an inventory of what I am doing, where I am going, and how I feel about it all.
Next week I head down to Southern California for a visit to Ever After Scrapbooks on Wednesday evening and then CKU-Anaheim for my Week In The Life class from Thursday to Sunday.
After that I will be back home just in time for Simon to start swimming lessons. Super excited about this - hoping this will be the summer he learns to swim. He loves the water, loves water slides, etc. I am starting him off in a class with other kids to see how that goes (with the option of switching to private lessons if it isn't working out). We have a great outdoor pool here in Eugene that is one of his most favorite places to visit.
Here's to warm weather during those swimming lessons.
Sounds like you're leading a full, busy, but *fun* life!! Ever After Scrapbooks!!! love that place!

Ali- just wanted to say thanks in advance. I am taking your Week in the Life class at CKU Anaheim next week... but the cool part is- those "everyday" photos have already turned out to be special. My teaching partner and sister-in-law is moving this summer. As friends are putting together a going away slide-show... guess where the only pics of her teaching came from?!
The everyday often seems unimportant, until it's too late to capture it. Thank you for understanding this and sending this message to all of us life artists.

Kudos for enrolling Little Boy Wonder in swimming lessons... so important! My 6th has perfected the dog paddle this spring. What a relief... it makes our time at the beach so much more fun and relaxing. Enjoy and best of luck with the group lesson thing!

Hi Ali- I have a quick question for you about film developing. Where do you get your 6x6 prints? I am working on the kit of the month book and am stuck on where to get the film developed. Thanks and have fun at your reunion. Star

Still campaigning for you to add CKC Phoenix to your agenda.
My guy is the same age as Simon, and if you afford it, I definitely recommend the private lessons as well as the group. So hard to make progress when the whole group has to move with you, and I think boys specifically listen better one-on-one. Just a thought.
LOVE your CK-KOTM. One of my best purchases, and I NEVER buy kits. Especially love the CD digi goodies.
Thanks!

It's so awesome that you're taking time to live and enjoy life, Ali! Also, love the photo of Simon (my husband still sits that way at a computer, heh-heh).
Side note: One of these days, I need to follow your lead and check out flickr...seems like it would be a better forum for my photo project: http://lizness.typepad.com/project365/a_favorite/index.html
Have fun at the reunion and in all of the moments in between!

Love the picture of Simon. It is so cool that Chris is helping you document these moments.
Good luck with the swimming lessons. My son is almost five and a fish. I just signed him up for his second year of lessons.
I can't wait to see your new Kit of Month.

Love those toes!!! Good job, Chris!!
I'll be seeing you at Amazon, too. Emma is signed up, but George is still too little. They do great with the little ones, they keep them contained in a PVC structure that keeps them in the water, but inside so they're safe. We had great luck there a couple of years ago.
I'm loving your inspiration pieces, thanks for sharing!

I really enjoyed your layout for the word "stop" and the use of beeswax looked so great. I love the subtle texture and color it added. I'm also curious to see what else you've done! Would you mind sharing some of your techniques? I would love to try it. Thanks.
Also, thanks for sharing inspiring content. I'm going to go check out Flickr right now!

Just wanted to say that was a great photo! My little girl sits on her knees and we think it is just the most "grown up" thing she does! I think that it is awesome that your hubby shares the same vision as you. You truly are an inspiration to others to capture their living life, not just the way they looked at 2, 3, 5 etc. Good luck with the swimming lessons! I so want my little one to be a little fish like I was. I really loved the water! You are so lucky to have such an awesome little man, and he is just as lucky to have an awesome mom (and dad too ;0) )!
