Big time excitement around here yesterday and today. Simon is six.
Yesterday we had a party with five other little kids and a bunch of adults and family. Kids were running and playing and eating and unwrapping. Simon loved it.
Here's the calm before the storm:
This year Simon went with a mixed theme. Elmo hats, Scoobie Doo banner + goodie bags, Dora cake plates, Shrek pizza plates, Cars cups, My Little Pony napkins, and a Happy Feet tablecloth. All favorites at one time or another over the past few years.
His newest passion right now is Star Wars. We got the original Star Wars movie at Christmas and since then we have watched it many times. Light sabers were requested as a birthday present. If he wouldn't have fallen asleep on the couch last night from sheer exhaustion I think he would have slept with those new light sabers. Those were definitely a hit.
No school today in celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. so we are hanging out, playing with toys, and working in between.

Your guy always reminds me of mine, who'll be 6 in March, and saw "Star Wars" for the 1st time on New Year's Eve.
I worried it was still too soon, because it is violent, but a friend pointed out how it makes sense of so many spiritual truths in a way kids can understand. That we all have dark and light sides, that God is a force within us. So I've embraced this new obsession and instead of goodbye we often say "May the force be with you" now:-)

amazing, isn't it? I have one that turned 6 on the 10th (a daughter) so I always relate to the timing of things when you talk about it- and it's really quite a ride. I was writing in her journal last night (a bit late)and thinking about how much I enjoy that, just writing letters to her yearly, and hopefully what a treasure she'll think the book is someday. How do you record the birthdays for Simon? Do you do it through your scrapbooks, or in another fashion? I guess I do both- scraps for me, letters to her (when she's an adult) and sometimes mini-kodak-books for her to carry around.

Happy 6th Birthday Simon!!! We celebrated my husband's 30th birthday here yesterday and it was Star Wars themed. Complete with Yoda Sodas, Skywalker Salsa, Han Burgers, and much more! I love the "My Favorite Things" idea too!! My daughter will be turning 6 this summer! Can't believe it!!!

happy birthday simon! i laughed outloud as i read his tastes in decorations, etc. good for YOU, mom, for letting go and letting him do his thing...definitely a good thing. and from one family with a 6yo boy (asd as well) to another...enjoy...may the force be with you.

Both of my boys (almost 6 and 3.5) LOVE Star Wars and are always having light saber battles or are playing with their action figures. Glad to hear another boy has caught the SW bug! :)

My son was sitting with me as I opened this and got so excited to see all the "COOL STUFF" ..."wow mom, look at all that cool stuff - elmo, cars, scooby doo...I wish I went to that birthday party" And he wanted to sing for Simon.

Owen's mama wants to know about the frames around your printer drawer - there are 2 empty ones and 1 with something red (maybe an 8 or a 3) and a something gold (maybe an e or a c)...as I write this I am thinking 3 and e (3 people in the edwards family)...but maybe it is a c and you are going to do an a and an s one also...are you going to put stuff in the other frames? Can you do a closer pic of them please??? I just LOVE what you do with your house...such "COOL STUFF"
