Three Things : Fabric (& a giveaway)

One of my favorite parts of my recent creativity travel was working with fabric in my projects. I have been playing with bits of it with my sewing machine and starting to collect small pieces here and there (haven't gotten into any clothes sewing yet).
Here's a fabric layout I made in Christina Lazar Schuler's class at Inspired called Textile Anthology (check her Etsy store for available kits):
She talked about making an entire album of fabric pages (the one above is 8x8). I like that idea and I also love that this sort of page can just go in my regular albums as well (put it into a page protector or add grommets to fit to your album rings).
So why fabric? I like to think of it in the same way I think of pattern paper - a decoration. A bit of color. The cool thing about fabric is that it also lends texture to your project. We can all use a bit more texture in our lives. Fabric can be added to a layout with adhesive or stitched on by hand (I actually really liked the process of hand-stitching the photo on the layout above) or with a machine (quick and easy). Try using it in place of patterned paper on your next project. It's also especially great for covering chipboard albums.

Here are three of my favorite sites for checking out fabric include Sew Mama Sew (love searching by color), Purl Soho (especially loving their contemporary collection), and Repodepot. You can also search etsy for vintage fabric sellers like Shabby Vintage Mom who has some cute bundles of vintage fabrics.

I think the reason why I love patterned paper so much is because my first love is fabric. I used to quilt before kids -- now it is too hard with no space to do it in -- papercrafting is a little more managable --but small projects like Donnas would be great --- I still have my fabric stash!

I love, love, love getting new ideas. I prefer minimalist pages, and the fabric gives the page such pop. All of Donna's books are great. I hope you pick me. I'd be a late birthday present. :-)

OMG...I need to get my hands on that book! I've been tooling with my new sewing machine the past few days!!
I love the idea of fabric pages! Love the added texture they would bring. Thinking that using something that is sentimental that i've been saving as a background for a page now. (Hubby has this tshirt that has some special meaning that would be great as a page.) Or...cutting my nursing school uniform up as page for my school scrapbook!

I only wanted to let you know it's funny how many people are suddenly intrigued by incorporating fabric into their projects... it must be a new fashion thing in scrapbooking... and a great one, I might add!Llove you project, and all that fabric on your shelf makes me almost jealous!!!

That book would look marvelous on my shelf - right next to the autographed copy of one of the first ones :)) I've gotten back into sewing this year now that I have more time and it's wonderful. So creative and so soothing to create something in another medium. My current project is a set of capris and a suntop for my granddaughter. She loved it when she saw it was the same fabric that I used to sew her mama a nursing uniform. Thanks for your generosity, Ali!! Happy Creating to You!
