Simon's Top 6 Things So Far This Summer (and a couple challenges)
Tags:The good stuff:
1. Flying on the airplane with Mom to Chicago to meet Dad.
2. Attending Nathaniel's birthday party yesterday at this very cool gym with lots of trampolines and places to run and jump and climb and bounce. He also loved that some of his buddies from school were there. One of my favorite parts was watching them play hide + seek.
3. Flying kites with Grandpa at the coast (especially flying them off the deck while hanging out in the hot tub).
4. Light sabers, light sabers, light sabers (and currently working for a storm trooper costume) and Star Wars, Star Wars, Star Wars.
5. Going to the local outdoor swimming pool.
6. Riding the school bus in the mornings to summer school. During kindergarten he just rode the bus home after school and we drove him in the mornings. We decided to give it a try and he loves it - got right on the first day no problem and was actually excited that the bus was going to come pick him up.
And just a couple challenges:
1. Not getting to wear his mask while he goes down the slide at the outdoor swimming pool.
2. Adjusting to a new schedule and a new friend who comes over to play with him in the afternoons.
3. Too much Star Wars. When he gets frustrated he has started pretending to take us out with the light sabers. Previously he utilized Harry Potter spells on us when he got upset. The spells still pop out from time to time.
And man, he is getting so tall. It's pretty amazing how much he has grown over the last year in so many different ways. Such an awesome kid.
As for me, right now I am back into the Harry Potter books full force. I finished up The Goblet of Fire (#4) last week and am already half way through The Order of the Phoenix (#5). I am really excited to get on to the next books that have not yet been released as movies.

Simon is one of the cutest kids ever!! I'm lucky with my Daughter. She brings so much joy into out lives. Anna's list of favorites would include the brookfield zoo, pet store to see fishies and anything yellow!
See you this weekend at CHA!

Glad to see my kids aren't the only Star Wars-obsessed ones out there. What is it about Star Wars and 5 year old boys? But we're moving towards Indiana Jones now - because he's allowed to take his cowboy hat & makeshift costume with him places, unlike the light sabers :)

Hi Ali
My 10 year old still loves Star Wars & is looking forward to the new Clone Wars movie coming to theaters next month - he even knows when the toys are scheduled to arrive in stores & he is attempting to earn a new Star Wars Lego set!!
I am currently reading Harry Potter & The Half Blood Prince.
Isn't funny how we all move at the same rhythm some times?
Have a fantastic day!!!!

I am so laughing at the Harry Potter spells popping up from time to time. Matthew still uses the "force" on all sorts of things...including automatically-opening glass doors at the malls/stores. He thinks he's so cool when he does that!
Happy summer you guys! :)

Hi Ali...I'm a HUGE fan of Harry Potter and JK Rowling. I love that she started writing these books when she was single mom, living alone in London. So much of Jo's personal life is reflected in the HP series.
I thought you might enjoy the links I've added here: The first one is JK Rowling giving the Harvard Commencement Speech last month. She talks about the Fringe Benefits of Failure and the Power of Imagination. Its amazing!

This other link is to the 800 word prequel that JK Rowling wrote for charity. Its about James Potter and Sirius Black, 3 years before Harry was born. Its in Jo's handwriting, so its a little tricky in parts....but its good!

my nephew (who is 5 and it not autistic) used to cast spells on us too when he was frustrated/annoyed by us. His were from the Disny film Bedknobs and Broomsticks (I think). He still does it occasionally. So I think that's a normal 5 y.o. behaviour.
When J-man does it, it makes me laugh and sometimes I go with it and pretend his spell has worked until he casts a new spell to make me "normal" again - which has taught him to let go of his grudge quickly (especially if he wants some chocolate milk or something that only normal Auntie Kass can get for him!!)

Ali - I love reading about Simon and his challenges - I know you don't like going through them but I love hearing that someone else goes through them. Sometimes it feels like I am the only one going through these moments. Your work is wonderful and your son is a gift - thank you for sharing.

I am a Potter Addict!! I listen to the books on CD in my car, over and over.
My kids, ages 18, 13, & 10, think I'm nuts! But I always catch something that I missed before.
I would love to live in Harry's world. Well, I do in a way, it's a great escape from reality, and makes long rides fun:)
Thanks for the link Ali. I didn't know about the Beetle book being bought by Amazon.com. It would be sooo cool to have one of those babies!
Hugs.
Hollie
