Week in the Life : Tuesday Photos + Words (and a workshop giveaway)
Tags:Just a note that Stacy Julian organized a really cool project encouraging everyone to give ourselves the gift of the present moment. This is precisely what we are doing with this week in the life journey. Check out her blog today.
From Tuesday:

Went with the simple list idea again - not as detailed as day one, but still much more than I would ever do without this project.
1. Super happy Simon wake-up this morning. He came into our room around 2am. I stayed for a bit and then went to his bed (which happens to be a bit more comfortable because of a firmer mattress). He joined me at about 5:45am just before the alarm went off at 6am.
2. Breakfast routine same as Monday: bagel + cream cheese for Simon, cereal for Chris, and me, I have to wait a bit for my thyroid medication. I usually eat after Simon leaves for school.
3. Every morning that Simon is cheerful I am so very thankful.
4. Working on a project for Australian Creating Keepsakes.
5. Listening to OPB.
6. Head out to the Farmer’s Market. Pick up spinach, carrots, celery, red onion, raspberries, and flowers. Grab a toasted bagel from Bagel Sphere.
7. Ship package to Australia.
8. Look up some recipes at www.allrecipes.com. Do a bit of meal planning for the week.
9. Text Chris to pick up a couple things at the grocery store.
10. Make German Apple Cake + eat hummus and pita chips for lunch.
11. Clean up kitchen.
12. Move laundry around.
13. Back to work. Internet. Emails.
14. Talk to Mom on the phone. Ask her about how to get the cake out of the bundt pan.
15. Totally bummed that Mothering.com message board has been down today.
16. Simon comes home on the bus.
17. We check out his Communication Notebook. Looks good. He brought home the same library book he brought home almost every trip last year.
18. On comes the Darth Vader costume and Star Wars video.
19. Chris talks on the phone. Mom reads about cloth diapers.
20. I take a little nap.
21. Dinner is tostadas (Chris cooks). Dessert is the German Apple Cake.
22. Simon does his math homework (no complaints tonight) at the table and then puts on his PJ’s.
23. Reading homework on the couch.
24. Family light saber battle.
25. Simon in bed. Read Green Eggs + Ham.
26. Back to work for a bit.
27. Watch Tivo’d John Stewart.
This week I am excited to give away a spot in Kolette Hall'sGiving Well (In 2-hours or Less) online workshop at Big Picture Scrapbooking.
Kolette is one of my favorite people and happens to be having a baby right around the same time as me next year. She is a fabulous product designer and instructor who really keeps the emphasis on things being meaningful and coming from the heart.
Here's the basics of Giving Well:
Gift-giving is an art. From the gift tag and wrapping paper to what's inside the package, you are saying something when you give a gift. Back by popular demand, Kolette Hall has designed a fresh round of fabulous, manageable gift ideas for the holiday season and all year long. This class is literally packed with everything you need to give well for the holidays or any special event all year long - and Kolette has designed every idea you will see in this class!
Every other day, you will receive a new idea for "Giving Well (still in 2-hours or less!)." True to form, Kolette has also included her exclusive downloadable artwork to help you create the perfect gifts, holiday cards and gift tags. As those of you who joined us last year for Giving Well know, you will be amazed with what you get in just four weeks of class time.
You asked for it, so we're starting class a month earlier than last year to make sure you have plenty of time to get those projects done for the holidays! Whether you are mass producing one gift idea or choosing to craft a different gift for each person on your list, you'll get tons of ideas for creating personalized gifts in less than two hours. Come join Kolette as she guides you in your new art form: the art of Giving Well.
You can read all the details about this online workshop here. It runs October 9 through November 5th. While you are there you can also check out her year long workshop for 2009: A Life Well Crafted.
To be entered leave a comment below and let us know if you have started planning for the upcoming holiday season yet. Comment section will be closed at 5pm today (Wednesday) and the winner announced shortly after.

I have not started to think of holiday gift giving yet. I love getting hand made gifts and do give out some... to those who I think would enjoy it most and appreciate it.
Sounds like a cool way to get it started and stay on top of it which I am sure each one of us could use! Thanks for the opportunity again Ali!

I really should start early this year with Christmas since my daughter is graduating from college on Dec. 20th! I have made calendars before and people loved them but they took so much time. I love being creative but would love some fresh, new ideas. This class sounds like just the thing.

I have been thinking about the holidays, but no real action yet. I did buy my calendar templates though - yeah!

I have started planning for Christmas. We are flying to Canada this year and with all the weight and luggage restrictions, I need to think light and smaller size than usual gifts this year. But, I love, love , love gift giving, so it's been fun coming up with ideas. This is the first time I've heard of the class...may just have to take it whether I win a place or not. Thanks!!

I just went to Michael's and bought a $1 journal to start my planning. I have made several lists and added a calendar of "stuff" I need to get done. I took Kollette's class year and it was wonderful!!

I have not started planning for the upcoming season ... well, if you count buying a live Christmas wreath from my son, who is selling them for Boy Scouts, then yes I have!!!! Thanks for the inspiration.

Yes, I've started thinking about Christmas. It will be a bit differant than what we are use to, living in a new town with no family around. We are planning though on picking out a few of our new neighbors and making them red velvet cakes. That will be fun!

I started planning for Christmas presents and budget a couple of weeks ago. Still wading through my Christmas themed papers and elements to figure out some card ideas.
I'm always open for more ideas and would love a chance to Kollette's class.
Thanks for everything, Ali!

okay, not too sure about the time on your blog - right now its 7.25pm here which makes the earliest easter side of the US, approximately 1.30pm -ish.
So I gues I'll throw my baited hook in - this class looks tremendous - Thankyou for the heads up, Ali!

oh....fun giveaway today! Thanks!
I haven't been planning too much for the holiday season quite yet. I just made out a "christmas card list" so I know how many cards I need to make. As far as gifts, I haven't pinned that one down yet! Our Fall decor went up this week, so I'm definitely in the mood for the change!

I reallyhaven't started planning for the Holidays yet, aside for trying to plan our Christmas card. I went to my local scrapbooking store to check out all the new paper for Christmas and am trying to come up with a card idea. The idea is the hardest part for me!

I've actually made a few Christmas cards already and started a gift list as I'll be ordering most of my stuff online this year. It'll be a busy season as my brother is also graduating from college so I've gotta be organized!

So funny... I looked at the photo and thought, "Wow, wish she was giving the bowl away, too." :) You have such great taste!
One of the things I'm doing for people this year for Christmas (I'm low on funds) is designing gift tags and cards and such to give them BEFORE Christmas to use for other people. That way it's useful and one of their chores is marked off their list.
Sounds like a great class...

Christmas? Good Heavens! Wasn't it just Independence Day?! Since I had my daughter (16 months ago) I have a really hard time thinking much beyond a week from today. It looks like I am in the minority here. And I probably desperately need the class!

I have started thinking about doing all small simple hand made gifts this year...focusing on simple, but handmade. Like a painted frame, or small mini flip book. Things like that.

I've started planning for Christmas -- at least in my head. Haha. Thanks for the inspiration this week. I started Monday and am enjoying the process. Now day 3, my 12 year old is getting into documenting things with the camera -- I'm actually in the photos and it's not my hand held shot of me! LOL.
Thanks Ali. :)

I plan the WHOLE year round. Seriously. Each year I think about what was the best moments out of the season and try to make that a tradition (like the German market in Edinburgh, or meaningful Christmas cards - always a peace theme) I have a folder full of recipes and gift ideas to make - but I also browse all year to get the PERFECT gift for people. The list is transferred to each new diary. I am known in my family for asking at the family summer holiday "So what are we doing for Christmas?"... and yes, they put up with that !! Ironically, we can't commit to anything until just before the big day as DH is a nurse !!!

Firstly, we're planning for our annual family halloween party! Busy and fun. I'm planning on pulling out the more fall-ish decor for the house - candles, warm colors, pumpkins, etc.
Already done some christmas shopping too! Go me!

I actually have just started planning for the holidays -- I took time off of work! I've dreaded the holidays the past few years because I've had so little time to do the projects and creative wrapping I've wanted to do, so this year, I've taken about 8 days off around the holidays to do my shopping, etc. and also have blocked off certain weekends so I can enjoy the holiday season with my family instead of rushing through it!
