One Little Word 2009 & Giveaways
Tags:I am so excited to embark on a new word for 2009.
My word is nurture.
For me, especially with a new baby on the way within the next month or so, I have been thinking a lot about nurturing. It's such a soft, slow, gentle word.
There are many things in my life I would like to focus on nurturing this coming year. Our new baby girl. Simon and the transition to big brotherhood. My relationship with Chris. Photography. Patience. My business & this blog.
I am also going to be conscious of nurturing myself during this time of major transition in our lives.
There is something very special about this word for me. It represents slowing down, simplifying, and pinpointing what is really important to me in my life (not just the next 365 days). I am nervous and excited and so looking forward to what is to come.
The idea behind the one little word concept is to give yourself something to focus on throughout the year. As I stated in my newsletter back in January 2007, "A single word can be a powerful thing. It can be the ripple in the pond that changes everything. It can sharp and biting or rich and soft and slow."
Also from that same newsletter:
I can't wait to see all the words for 2009.
To celebrate the new year I have three very special giveaways - all directly related to this project. Two beautiful pieces of jewelry and one piece of art to celebrate your word.

I am still in the process of deciding on my new word for 2009. Last year I had "enjoy" and I think I proved to myself that I can and did enjoy life. I am thinking about either REFLECT or RENEW as I want to reflect on the past and want to renew myself as I approach 40 in 2009. Deep thought is needed to decide.
Happy New Year to you and your family. Much is coming for you in the new year!

My word for the new year is "embrace".
2009 is going to bring about lots of change for me and my household. Everything from a new president to a baby girl in a family of three boys.
So I am going to embrace change with open arms and an open heart. I can't wait!

My word is PERSPECTIVE. A little reminder that there are many ways to look at things, and sometimes a change in perspective makes all the difference.

I haven't yet come up with just one word to encompass my intent for 2009. But I do have two phrases that keep swirling in my brain, asking to be distilled into "the word." They are: * all is well, and * back to basics. I want to stop worrying about things that I can't actively change and I want to de-clutter not just my physical surroundings but my way of living for the coming year.
Happy New Year, Ali!

My word is going to be me.
I need to remember in situations how I feel afterwards, how to make sure someone takes care of me, my body needs some attention too. I need to stop worrying about others and now concern myself with me.

Hi,
What a great word you have choosen this year. It can be used through-out life. I have also been thinking about my word, and came to the decision a few days ago that it will be, "teach". I have two sons 5 & 2, who I want to slow down and teach them so many wonderful things about life, love and themselves. So this year will be a year of teaching.

My word this year is FOCUS. Looking through the other comments, it looks like a lot of people are thinking the same thing as I! Starting grad school next month will be a huge challenge. I know that I will need to focus very hard on my studies. Also, I want to be able to focus on the rest of my life. I want to give myself time to be creative without feeling guilty for not studying. I want to be able to focus on my husband. I want to live in the moment of whatever I'm doing - focus solely on that!
Thanks for this great idea!!

I am facing a whole new way of life in 2009 with my husband moving overseas for a job. We have a small son, so I could think of a few words that may need to be my focus. They are: courage, faith, trust, peace, action. So many reasons for those. Not only my husband, but also my relationship with God, my parenting. Wow! I hope this year proves to be a positive one for me.

Thank you for the word idea. I did it last year. Really changed a lot for me...and many of my friends who hoped on board the word wagon. My word this year is BEAUTY. I need to believe I am beautiful, find the beauty in the litte things, and others. But mostly, the word is just to finally believe this year that I am beautiful. Hopefully by doing this I will treat myself better, feed myself better, talk to myself kinder, etc...Thanks again and blessings on you and your family in the new year.

My word for 2009 is patient, I need to learn to have more patience with the people around me. My extended family has been through alot this year and I need to be more patient with them and the decisions that they've made even though it may not be in there best interests for having made those decisions.

love this-my word for 2009-honor. I have been given tons of family photos that I want to scrapbook & display. I want to tell my relatives story to honor and respect them. I want to go through my home and donate/purge all of the items i am not using and be mindful of respecting the environment and our home. I want to be mindful to appreciate all of the blessings in my life and finally, after 6 years of being a stay at home mom, I am going back to work, part-time to honor my advanced degree and use my maiden name, which I have always done professionally-so honoring and respecting my mind and my family name. Happy New Year!
