One Little Word 2009 & Giveaways
Tags:I am so excited to embark on a new word for 2009.
My word is nurture.
For me, especially with a new baby on the way within the next month or so, I have been thinking a lot about nurturing. It's such a soft, slow, gentle word.
There are many things in my life I would like to focus on nurturing this coming year. Our new baby girl. Simon and the transition to big brotherhood. My relationship with Chris. Photography. Patience. My business & this blog.
I am also going to be conscious of nurturing myself during this time of major transition in our lives.
There is something very special about this word for me. It represents slowing down, simplifying, and pinpointing what is really important to me in my life (not just the next 365 days). I am nervous and excited and so looking forward to what is to come.
The idea behind the one little word concept is to give yourself something to focus on throughout the year. As I stated in my newsletter back in January 2007, "A single word can be a powerful thing. It can be the ripple in the pond that changes everything. It can sharp and biting or rich and soft and slow."
Also from that same newsletter:
I can't wait to see all the words for 2009.
To celebrate the new year I have three very special giveaways - all directly related to this project. Two beautiful pieces of jewelry and one piece of art to celebrate your word.

I am going to CHERISH. There is too much that I take for granted. Cherishing my life enough to take better care of my family, body, house, and myself!

My word for 2009 is going to be FOCUS. Focus on lots of things but mostly meaning to keep life in FOCUS. Keep it up front and important - my family, my art, my household, so many things need FOCUS in 2009! Thanks Ali, can't wait to see what you have in store for us on your blog and best wishes to you and all your family, including the new little girl not quite here yet!

It was so hard to pick just one word. I was drawn to many: fly, change, be, grow...I think however that I'm going to go with flex. To be flexible in my opinions and my attitudes. To flex my body and my mind. To let go of rigidity and fear of change. Yes, flex it is.

I have a string of words that have come to me: Compassionate, Courageous, Clarity, and Christian. All of these words take both vision, figurative and literal, to act upon them. And, as all of these start with "C", my word for 2009 will be "See".

My word for 2009 is "Be Present". I want to fully embrace each moment instead of always looking to the future. Thank you for being so inspiring Ali.

Constancy. That's it. Okay, now that I've said it, I guess I better put it into motion.

Hi Ali,
I really like your word. And it fits so well, because you have a little one coming up!
My word for the year of 2008 was Initiative. And I really think that I have got more initiative in me now.
For the year of 2009 it is harder. I believe that Courage, Believe or Focus.
It's a hard choice and I still allow myself some time to decide!

Like you I chose the word nuture. I tried to think of a different word, but I keep returning to it. I am a registered nurse (school nursing specialty)that it would be easy to embrace this word, but with all the crazy days, pulled in many different directions etc. this is perfect. Not only to nuture others I come in contact with, but also myself since I don't have time or energy after working full time, and coming home to my family. Thanks for the inspiration. Health and happiness in 2009.

Hi Ali...
You are such an inspiration, including my choice of word for 2009: BEGIN. I have spent the last many months (years?) with lots of intentions and plans, but somehow continually fail to take the first step and just get started. It seems I'm always waiting for something to happen, thwarted by the lack of the "perfect" situation. This includes scrapbooking and recording the many moments I want to hold on to for myself and my family. I just turned 39 this week and feel this 40th year is a new beginning in many ways - a time to look back and forward at the same time and to simply BEGIN the life I somehow keep waiting to have. Thanks for your wonderful blog, your books and your willingness to share yourself with us - and best wishes as your family, too, "begins" a new phase!

My word came to me in a craft store when I saw the word in nice white letters, and bought it for someone else who 'needed' it. Once I got it home, I realized it was really for me, and the word has come up two more times in the past week or two.
RELAX
I can make most anything more intense than needed and I don't need that kind of energy in my life anymore. When I relax, I let go of expectations and am most likely to feel content.
Your nurture is perfect for you and yours!

My word for 2009, well really 2 words but it really has meaning for me and my family this year.....Goosebump moments. Sounds odd maybe, even if its just for a few seconds, but moments of that shiver you get all over you get when something excieting has just happened. With my son with Autism, and a daughter who has sensory issues, I want to focus on all the great little moments that happen to our family. In times when its all a challenge remembering these times will give me the courage to carry on. I really feel good about this year. Happy New Year and heres to lots of "creating those goosebump moments" :-)
